Regina had made a round of the banquet hall affectionately linking arms with her prized daughter-in-law, Wendy. Sh on a fake smile as if shed only just spotted them.

“I didn’t expect you to grace us with your presence. I must have forgotten to send you an invitation, guess my memo what it used to be.”

Her tone sounded apologetic, but the sarcasm was obvious.

Then Regina’s gaze shifted to Rafe, her smile never reashing her eyes. “And you’ve brought… Mr. Sterling.”

“Madam Shawn, you’re too kind.” Dora smiled. “Rafe got the invitation and decided to bring me along to see what the gatherings are all about.”

She purposely called him by his first name, sounding extra close, and sure enough, Regina and Wendy’s faces instan soured.

Wendy was dressed in a champagne-colored gown today, and without the protection of her combat suit, she found h nervously wrapping her arms around herself.

“Rafe, we meet again,” Wendy finally spoke, her voice practically squeezed out through gritted teeth.

Three months ago, she’d publicly humiliated the “bankrupt” Rafe, saying he wasn’t even worthy to carry her shoes. Now, those very hands she’d once dismissed were hovering protectively behind Dora’s waist, their closeness impossib miss:

Rafe coughed again, sounding even weaker than before. “Sorry to make you laugh, Ms. Lynn. “This is Mindy Finn, my neighbor,” Dora said. “She heard there was a rare mutated blueberry tree here and just had to co see it for herself.”

Regina’s smile froze for a split second.

When even Dora’s neighbor could casually wear a high-end custom combat suit, it was clear Dora had climbed to a who new level of wealth and status.

Meanwhile, the Shawn family’s matriarch herself had to make do with basic protection. The comparison was so glaring that Regina’s forced smile nearly slipped.

“Of course, you’re welcome,” Regina quickly put on her best smile. “Anyone who’s a friend of Dora’s is a VP in the Shawn family.

“I have other VIPs to attend to, so I’ll excuse myself for now.”

As Regina turned away, Dora noticed tiny red spots showing up on the back of her neck.

Just as Regina finished speaking, a sudden commotion erupted at the entrance.

Everyone’s attention was instantly drawn to the door.

A sleek, all-black hovercar glided to a stop at the entrance. The moment the door slid open, a suffocating, overwhelming pressure swept through the entire main hall.

Everyone held their breath, eyes fixed on the figure stepping out of the car.

He was a tall, lean middle-aged man with cold, sharp features, dressed in a long, deep gray robe.

He wore nothing but the robe, no accessories, no embellishments, but the sheer pressure made everyone unconsciously step back.

He had no protective gear on, yet any pollutants or mutated parasites from the wet season simply evaporated as soon as they came within three feet of him.

Dora felt Lioren in her arms suddenly bristle, and Rafe’s hand, which had been resting lightly on her waist, lightened for e split second.

Lioren’s amber eyes were half-closed, his tail lazily draped over Dora’s arm, he looked as ordinary as a pet could possibly be

The elders’ eyes swept over him, not even passing for a second.

‘Just an unremarkable little female with an equally unremarkable cat, nothing worth paying attention to, they thought.

But in Lioren’s eyes, a chilling, icy gleam flickered for a moment.

Dora gently stroked his back, as if calming him, or quietly telling him, ‘No hurry’

On the other side of the hall, Felix couldn’t take his eyes off that silver-gray silhouette.

Mindy was chatting with Dora, a bright smile lighting up her face. Her cool, sharp energy and striking presence made Felix completely mesmerized, he just couldn’t look away.

Dora glanced back and caught her third brother, Felix, staring at Mindy, totally entranced.

He was wearing a silver combat suit today, and with Mindy in a matching one, they honestly looked like a couple in coordinated gear.

But right now, he was standing there like a nervous teenager, completely at a loss.

Dora watched Felix acting all awkward and quietly slipped away from him.

Rafe snickered, only to get a quick pinch on his waist from Dora.

“Don’t laugh,” she whispered. “Back when you were acting all broke and miserable and I took you in as my beast mate, y were even dumber than him.”

Rafe’s laugh quickly turned into a cough.

The main hall was getting packed, with guests streaming in from all directions.
