Chapter 39

At that moment, Lioren didnt care about his image anymore. He lay in Dora’s arms with a face full of utter resignation Even through the towel, he could still feel the warmth of her body and the gentle strokes of her drying

His amber eyes stayed half open. The sharpness and pride that usually lived there were gone, replaced by a blank hare of humiliation, fury, and the bone-deep weariness and acceptance that came after all that struggling

Dora carefully patted the moisture from Lioren’s fur wish the towel, her movements tender.

Seeing him in this state, Dora finally couldn’t hold back a low laugh. She tapped his wet nose lightly with her fingertip. ‘All done. All clean. You smell so good now, kitty.”

Dora deliberately emphasized the word “kitty” to break the awkwardness between them.

Lioren let out a feeble meow in reply, then buried his head deeper into the towel, refusing to look at this female who had her eyes on him anymore.

Then Dora walked out of the shower carrying Lioren, who was wrapped up like a burrito with only half of his utterly defeated face showing. She ran right into Clive, who’d finished checking the shield, and Elmer, who had cleaned up the

kitchen.

Clive’s gaze lingered on the cat burrito for a beat. What seemed like a faint, icy glint flickered through the depths of his ey

Clive had heard about Lioren sneaking into Dora’s bed. Beastfolk had excellent hearing, let alone Clive, who had been alert and watchful since he was a child.

Elmer, on the other hand, burst into laughter. “Dora, what did you do to him? He looks so miserable.” He leaned in with a cheeky grin, wanting to get a closer look.

A threatening low growl came from inside the towel wrap.

Dora laughed awkwardly and held Lioren a little tighter. “Fuzzball is shy. He’ll be fine once his fur dries.”

She walked over to the campfire, found a spot sheltered from the wind and nice and warm, and set Lioren down, towel and all. “You stay here and warm up by the fire. Let your fur dry. No running off, or you’ll catch a cold.”

Lioren peeked one eye out from the edge of the towel, glanced at the warm campfire, then at Dora’s smiling face.

In the end, he curled up in defeat inside the towel, giving everyone only his back. The tip of his tail hung listlessly outside the towel.

Clive shot a dark look at Lioren, his voice carrying a faint chill. “Dora, bring out the tent we used in the training cone

Dora answered reflexively, “Okay.”

With a wave of her hand, the tent from the training zone appeared on the ground. Clive picked it up without a word an it up on the other side of Dora’s tent. The three tents now formed a protective triangle around Dora’s tent

Elmer seized the chance to run to the shower and scrub himself clean. He thought. No way am I letting Dora think I m gross.’

As night fell, the four, fresh from their showers and each wearing a look of relaxed contentment, gathered around the makeshift dinner table as agreed.

She pushed the three crystal cores with the richest energy and brightest luster in front of Clive.

When Clive’s fingertip touched the Level 4 crystal core, he could feel the surging energy pulsing within it like a tide.

He looked up to Dora, his gaze unfathomably deep, as if he wanted to say something. But he said nothing, only giving a slight nod. He accepted. He was very surprised that Dora would give him the only Level-4 crystal core.

“Elmer, Lioren, you each take two Level-3 Pinnacle and one Level-3 crystal cores” Dora pushed two more shares forward.

Elmer immediately cradled his share like it was the most precious thing in the world, his light brown eyes full of contentment. “Thank you, Dora. My crystal energy is full right now, I can definitely reach Level-4 this time.”

The way he looked at Dora was filled with trust and joy.

Lioren crouched to the side, the tip of his tail lazily sweeping the ground. Dora placed his share of three crystal cores on a clean stone slab in front of him.

He nudged them with his paw, his amber eyes glancing at Clive’s share, then at his own. He seemed very surprised.

Lioren thought, “This female actually took out all the high-grade crystal cores and split them among us, fair and square. based on contribution.

With so many precious crystal cores, wouldn’t an average female at least keep a portion hidden away, even if she didn’t take them all for herself? After all, in this interstellar society, crystal cores are basically the same as starcoins.

The higher the grade, the more expensive they are. Even with their own beast mates, they would hold something back. Not to mention, Elmer and I aren’t even her beast mates yet. Dora really differs from the other interstellar females in so many

ways.

A low, unreadable rumble came from Lioren’s throat. He picked up the Level-3 Pinnacle crystal core with the richest energy in his mouth, slowly padded over to his special cushion in the corner of the tent, and settled down.

He idly batted the crystal core with his paw, absorbing the energy. His posture was as elegant as if he were playing with a ball of yarn. With every nudge, the crystal core gave off clusters of sparkling light.

“I’ll keep the remaining Level-1, Level-2, and low-grade crystal cores,” Dora put away the rest of the crystal cores and stated plainly. “The remaining starcoins will also be held by me for now, to buy construction materials and cover our future family expenses. Any objections?”

Elmer immediately voiced his stance. “Dora, you’re the head of the household. The family assets are all yours to manage

Clive nodded in agreement. Then he spoke, “Dora, can you prepare more of that honey water you brought out tonight for us? We’ll probably need it when we absorb the crystal cores.”

Elmer seemed to remember something and nodded in agreement. “Right, Dora. Even though dinner tonight reallest a lot of our crystal energy, absorbing crystal cores to upgrade supernatural abilities burns through a huge amount of crystal ener

“If we can replenish it in time, the odds of a successful upgrade go up.”

Hearing that, Dora immediately took out three large buckets of essence spring water and a big jar of honey from her Spatial Realm. She poured the honey into the three buckets, mixed them well, and handed them out

Clive’s implication was clear. Lioren was not allowed to stay with Dora arrymore.

Hearing this, Elmer immediately nodded in agreement. “Yeah. The energy shield has been reisdored by Car The Greed us will protect Dora. You stay on your own from now on” He had wanted to say this for a while
