Surrounded by Five Beast Lords novel Chapter 45

45 Home

Dora wrestled her attention back to the task at hand, but her peripheral vision kept drifting stubbornly toward two very specific areas of interest

For any perfectly healthy adult woman, maintaining total composure in front of such a powerful and visually rewarding display was next to impossible.

Lioren lounged beneath the makeshift shade canopy with a small dish of chilled fish broth set in front of him, lazily licking one paw.

His amber cat eyes looked halfshut and indifferent, but nothing on the field actually escaped his notice.

He caught every flicker of Dora’s wandering gaze, the faint flush creeping across her cheeks, and the awkward way she kept reaching for her water.

He also clocked how her eyes lingered on Clive’s midsection and Elmer’s arms with that unmistakable flash of raw female instinct. In this kind, a woman sized up a male body with equal parts appreciation and hunger.

Lioren’s paw froze midlick. This female, he sneered inwardly. She looks so levelheaded on the surface, runs plans like a damn field general, and here she is spacing out over male flesh?

Lioren let out a silent scoff, the tip of his tail flicking once with impatience.

He glanced down at himself, at this round, fluffy little cat body he was stuck in. Sure, it was cute and nimble, and being cradled in her arms felt nice enough.

But when it came to the core male competition of catching a female’s eye, this form gave him absolutely nothing to work with.

A restless irritation coiled tight in his chest. He needed to get back to his human form, and fast.

He pictured himself standing before Dora in his true shape, broad shoulders tapering to a narrow waist, muscles carved with fluid power, every line of him radiating cold, aristocratic authority.

Once I shift back, she won’t be staring slackjawed at those two sweaty oafs anymore, he thought, and a tiny flame kindled behind his amber cat eyes.

He lapped up the last of the fish soup in three greedy gulps, leaped down from the awning, and padded over to a pile of lighter building materials with an elegant stride.

He clamped his teeth around a short timber block Dora might need and carried it straight to her, chin high, chest puffed out. He set the block at Dora’s feet and tilted his amber gaze up at her, his whole expression screaming, Praise me, woman.’ The little cat’s performance snapped Dora out of her daze. She looked down at Lioren’s shameless begforapproval face and couldn’t hold back a laugh.

She bent down and rubbed his head. What a good kitty. Thanks, little guy.

Lioren leaned into her palm with a satisfied purr, but his eyes slid sideways, stealing one smug glance at the two males drenched in sweat not far off.

The generous supply of starcoins kept the construction moving at a pace that would have been impossible otherwise, with no starts and stops, no waiting on shipments.

Dora stretched every last coin of her 248,800starcoin budget to its absolute limit.

The funds covered all the base materials and construction robot fees, with enough left over for a decent batch of interior finishes and basic furniture.

Between the tireless precision of the building robots and the watchful supervision of Clive, Elmer, and Lioren, the three- story structure that had once existed only on Dora’s blueprints rose from the barren homestead like something sprouting overnight.

The main frarne used a reinforced alloy mixed with crushed stability stone, making the entire shell exceptionally solid. But the most striking feature was the basement.

Rather than a standard storage space, it had been designed as a sealed, streamlined hull compartment.

Lightweight, waterproof material lined the inner walls, and the layout included simple power hookups and a rudder control console. In ordinary times, one could use it for training, storage, or recreation.

Once storm season triggered a catastrophic flood, the mechanism would kick in, and the preinstalled buoyancy modules and isolation layers beneath the house would do their job.

The entire basement would detach from the foundation, transforming briefly into a sturdy liferaft that carried the whole family to safety.

What Bora had designed was an insurance policy against extreme weather, one that married interstellar world technology with Blue Planet ingenuity.

The first floor opened into a bright, spacious layout that merged the dining area and the living room into a single flowing

space.

Clive’s custom smart cooking station and climate control system were already installed, and Elmer had sanded down solid timber into a handsome set of rustic dining furniture.

Floortoceiling windows featured adjustable tinting panels that flooded the interior with natural light while keeping the elements out.

The front door was reinforced and wired with a basic access control and surveillance setup.

Five rooms lined the second floor in a neat row, all still bare. They were reserved for future family members, even though the headcount hadn’t yet filled out.

Elmer had already quietly claimed his favorite corner room and snuck up there every now and then to sweep the floor

Half of the third floor belonged to the main suite Dora had mapped out, complete with a small sitting area and the best view in the house, one that looked down over the entire yard and stretched all the way to the distant wasteland.

The other half was a broad open terrace decked with weatherproof planking, a spot built for grilling, stargazing, or lining up a few potted plants down the road.

Simple guardrails and awning mounts were already set along the terrace edge.

The rooftop stretched flat and wide, outfitted with guide lights and docking clamps that marked a compact landing pad for small aircraft. Clive’s flyer was already parked up there.

The exterior walls wore a tough fiber cladding processed from iron fern vine, which reinforced the house’s defenses. The roof was layered with a composite material engineered to absorb solar energy.

An energy shield generator sat anchored in the foundation core, its power grid integrated throughout the entire structure, so the protective field covered the house and the firstfloor yard exactly.

Thanks to the energy crystal cluster fragments and glow beetle gland extracts, the system had been upgraded to midtier. The pale blue shimmer held firmer now, strong enough to block radiation, sandstorms, and most lowlevel alien beast incursions.

Clive had woven the froststone and polar cryos and systems into the wall cavities and ventilation ducts with real craftsmanship, giving the house a basic but functional temperature and humidity regulation from the ground up. The water recycling and purification module had been installed and connected to every floor.

The interior was still bare bones, with nothing beyond basic wall finishes, laid flooring, and a scattering of furniture. But a fully functional, structurally sound home, one tough enough to take whatever the weather threw at it, had already taken shape.
