Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 1311

Mr. Morris looked completely wiped out. After a day of intense treatment, he was so exhausted he could hardly talk.

Jarvis Peters, still riding the high of relief, spoke up first with a big grin. “Don't worry, Mr. Williams. We’ve been monitoring Camila for hours and her body hasn’t had any reaction to the antidote—no rejection, no side effects at all. Once she wakes up, as long as nothing else comes up, she’s going to recover.”

For a second, Dennis Williams just stood there, frozen. It was like he didn’t even know how to react.

Aaron, beside him, was bursting with joy, his voice quivering when he spoke. “Did you hear that, Mr. Williams? Mrs. Smith is going to be alright!”

Aaron’s shout seemed to finally pull Dennis back. His gaze flickered, and he answered softly, “I heard.”

Even then, he kept most of his feelings to himself.

But the relief was clear to everyone. His whole face relaxed as if a mountain had been lifted off his back.

Aaron nearly lost it. He’d been with Mr. Williams for a long time and knew better than anyone how much his boss had been carrying. If anything had happened to Mrs. Smith today, Aaron was sure Mr. Williams would have brought the sky down.

Thank God they were finally on the other side.

Mr. Morris understood exactly how Dennis felt. He reached over, gave Dennis's shoulder a weary pat and said, “If you’re worried, go be with her. She probably won’t wake up tonight—the medicine’s still doing its thing—but she should be up by morning.”

Nothing any of them said would help Dennis more than seeing Camila with his own eyes. Only then could he finally breathe easy.

Dennis nodded, his gratitude clear. “Thank you, Master.”

Mr. Morris waved it off. The group who had come out of the treatment room could barely stand. Everyone broke off quickly to go get some rest.

Abner Young had been waiting for an update. As soon as he heard it was over, he sent people to rest, then rounded up a few absolutely trustworthy and capable team members to keep an eye on Camila overnight.

Dennis asked Aaron to take Mr. Morris home while he went straight into the medical room himself.

Camila was still in bed, her skin pale as the sheets. She’d lost so much weight. Her face had gone thin, almost hollow, her wrists fragile as twigs. She looked so breakable, he was afraid even a breeze could hurt her.

Dennis sat down next to her, carefully took her hand in both of his. He used his own warmth to bring life back to her cool fingers, soaking up a peace he hadn’t felt in ages.
