Chapter 278 Comfort After Chaos
*10 Fre
Diana buried her face in Brian’s shoulder, her tears immediately soaking through the crisp white fabric of his dress shirt.
Before coming over, Isabelle had given him a quick summary of what happened, so he already flad the gist of the situation
“How could she be so naive, getting fooled by one man after another! if she can’t tell a good person from a bad one, she might well be blind. What’s the point of being pretty?” Diana sobbed, her voice thick with frustration and pain.
“Cheated out of her money and taken advantage of–she’s lived this long, how can she still have such terrible judgment?
“What’s so great about being handsome? It’s all a front, rotten on the inside, and he probably doesn’t even work out…
She grieved for her mother, who seemed perpetually cursed with terrible taste innen–each one shabbier and more worthless
than the last.
Her mother’s life was already hard enough. Why did she keep inviting these losers into it?
Hadn’t she been hurt enough already?
Wouldn’t it be better to just be on her own?
Did she really need to drag these scumbags into her life just to create more chaos?
Brian patted her back soothingly, his touch gentle.
It was precisely because this woman had witnessed so many failed relationships that she was so conflicted in her own feelings and so resistant to the ideas of love and marriage.
This was the first time he had seen her so thoroughly vulnerable.
Usually, she was bold and direct, decisive in action, always like a general charging into battle.
When had she ever fallen apart like this before?
Damn it all!
Just when her heart had begun to soften toward him a little, it was probably closing right back up now.
He really wanted to find that man and teach him a proper lesson!
“Alright, that’s enough crying. Let me help you fix your makeup,” Brian said softly, releasing her and taking her hand.
“You know how to do makeup?”
Diana managed a teary smile, wiping at her smudged face.
A guy like him doing makeup?
It seemed a bit… unexpected.
“No, but I can learn. You know I’ve always been a quick study in… various fields,” Brian replied with a reassuring smile, leading her to the vanity in the bride’s suite.

She let out a soft, watery chuckle but didn’t argue. She was already used to Brian’s particular brand of confident, slightly cheeky
charm.
She sat down obediently on the plush stool, her heart still heavy.
What a day this was turning out to be!
Diana pulled out her phone and opened a document Isabelle had just sent her it contained background information on the man from earlier.
The guy her mother was seeing was just an average office worker. Riding on her mother’s connecfrens, he had gotten some minor modeling gigs and had recently latched onto a young, aspiring socialite. That was who he had brought as his date to the wedding today.
Diana skimmed the details, her brow furrowing.
“Focus,” Brian said gently, leaning against the vanity and tipping her chin up.
Only then did Diana notice that Brian was holding a powder puff, carefully dabbing at the tear stains on her cheeks.
She looked up at him, her eyes still swimming.
His touch was warm, whether it was his hands on her skin or the intensity of his presence.
He had a youthful face, but sometimes he carried himself with the gravity of someone much older. Other times, he could be incredibly boyish.
With those refined, handsome features, he could switch between sweet and fierce effortlessly.
Sometimes, Diana truly couldn’t figure him out.
No wonder Damian and Isabelle often called him “the strategist“-it wasn’t just a casual nickname.
Diana stared at him, momentarily lost in her thoughts.
“Brian… how many girlfriends have you actually had?”
Brian’s lips quirked into a smirk. “All my expertise comes from theoretical research. Don’t go making assumptions.”
“So you’ve never had a girlfriend?” Diana pressed, curiosity cutting through her gloom.
This guy, who was never without beautiful women around him, had it all–brains, looks, and… well, he was certainly skilled in other departments, too.
Before they got together, she’d always heard Isabelle refer to him jokingly as “Mr. Popular“.
But she’d never actually seen him show serious interest in anyone.
“Ms. Williams, you are my first real love. I’m begging you, please don’t break my heart.”
Brian paused his ministrations, adopting a playfully exaggerated tone of humility as he set the powder puff down.
Then he picked up a tube of lipstick from Diana’s open clutch.
