Chapter 301 Damian Returns Seeking Forgiveness.
People from the Cross family truly were cut from the same cloth–every one of them had a face like carved stone, showing almost no expression.
They gave off an imposing, unapproachable vibe
And honestly, they really weren’t easy to get close to.
Still, they all seemed well preserved, with no obvious signs of aging.
Theodore walked right past Collin and headed straight into the hospital room, his expression softening into a kind, grandfatherly smile as he approached Isabelle.
Collin frowned.
That was quite the rapid transformation.
“Mr. Cross,” Diana acknowledged.
“Grandfather, what are you doing here?” Isabelle was now sitting up in the bed.
“How could I not come for something this important?” He sounded genuinely concerned, with a touch of exasperation.
Isabelle offered a faint smile but didn’t reply.
What exactly did he mean by “important“?
Damian’s alleged affair?
Or her pregnancy?
Each possibility felt like a separate condemnation–a curse meant to shatter whatever bond they had.
No, maybe there hadn’t been that profound a bond to begin with. Whatever feelings existed were more like the steady affection built through shared daily life after marriage.
Theodore could see her inner turmoil. He spoke earnestly, “Once he’s back, I’ll get to the bottom of this. i’make sure he gives you a proper explanation. Since he isn’t here yet, if things are truly as they’re being portrayed, I will handle it for you!”
“Thank you, Grandfather.” Isabelle’s nose stung.
Sometimes, sudden kindness and unwavering support could bring tears more readily than sorrow itself.
It was like having a scab picked at over and over.
It somehow hurt more.
“Grandfather, you really don’t need to trouble yourself with our matters,” Isabelle began, but her words trailed oft, unsure how to finish.
“Nonsense: Failing to raise him right is our responsibility,” Theodore said firmly. “That boy never struck me as the type for this. With the wedding being planned, to cause such a scandal now… I’d wager someone set him up.”
Last year, when Isabelle had Damian’s formal wear tailored, she’d sent someone to the family estate to collect it. Back then,
Damian hadn’t been in contact with his ex for years there was even clear resentment between them.
But when Isabelle had shown up at the estate that day, she had probably already sensed the truth in her heart.
Now he was married to Isabelle. Plus, the devotion in his eyes for her wasn’t fabricated–how could he possibly do such a thing?
And with Ashley, of all people!
There had to be more to the story.

Isabelle contributed little. Right now, she just wanted silence.
