Blaze was absent. According to Sienna, he’d been extremely busy lately.

Isabelle had meant to ask Sienna how things were going, but seeing the visible glow on her face, she know Blaze must be treating her well.

Brian and Diana still hadn’t returned. They were having so much fun that they seemed to have forgotten about work.

The last to arrive were Barry and Wilbur.

Wilbur had been transferred to the Cypher Group headquarters as General Manager. Lately, he’d been working closely with Barry. They likely had some business to discuss, which was why they came together

Wilbur hadn’t been having an easy time. Kylie had run away, but that night of the accident, someone had snapped photos of them holding hands and of Kylie wearing Wilbur’s clothes, then posted them online.

Wilbur’s identity as Ryan’s son was exposed. To save face, Ryan publicly announced Wilbur’s engagement to Kylie.

Wilbur was out of town at the time. By the time he returned, the rumors had spread beyond control.

He couldn’t reach Kylie-he’d heard she was abroad on a business trip.

For now, he had to accept the situation publicly to let the controversy die down.

Once everyone arrived, they sat in the courtyard enjoying a candlelit dinner-a true feast.

Warm-toned string lights hung around the yard. Maids moved about busily. The men and women naturally drifted into separate groups to chat.

With Theodore and Louis both present, Damian took the chance to bring Barry and Wilbur up to his study. They stayed there for two hours.

When they finished, Wilbur lingered. Damian seemed to notice and asked Barry to go downstairs first.

“Something on your mind?” Damian tilted his chin toward a chair, inviting Wilbur to sit.

“It’s personal,” Wilbur said as he sat down.

Wilbur knew about Damian’s history with Ashley, but Ashley’s feelings had been one-sided. Wilbur held no grudge against Damian, nor was it his place to judge.

Besides, Damian was genuinely talented. Wilbur admired him.

Even knowing Wilbur was Ryan’s son, Damian never gave him special treatment at work.

Wilbur appreciated that. At least Damian didn’t treat him like others did, showering him with flanery.

“Go ahead, Damian said, closing the file in his hands.

Wilbur said, “Mr. Cross, I was hoping you could ask Mrs. Cross if she has any news about Kylie I need to

find her.”

Damian nodded. He’d probably seen the recent news and understood Wilbur’s reason.

A faint smile touched his lips. “You can go ask her yourself. I’m not that petty.”

“Mr. Cross, that’s not what I meant.”

“I’m saying, some things you can discuss directly with my wife.” Damian’s smile widened.

I am busy.

Wilbur paused. “Alright. Thank you, Mr. Cross.”

“Wait.” Damian called him back.

“Yes, Mr. Cross?” Wilbur asked.

Damian said, “Soon, you’ll need to follow up on the collaboration with Mr. Tauss. The formalities are mostly done. Just go check on the progress.”

Soon, Isabelle would be further along in her pregnancy. Damian wouldn’t have time to travel then. He planned to stay close to home and had asked Dylan to push back most of his external commitments.

“Understood.” Wilbur wouldn’t refuse.

Damian knew Kylie kept in touch with Isabelle. They were both designing for Beatrice, so they communicated often. He’d also heard Isabelle mention things about Kylie. The situation was probably more complicated than Wilbur realized.

Wilbur likely didn’t understand why Kylie was hiding.

Then, Wilbur went downstairs.

He felt awkward approaching Isabelle directly-she was surrounded by women. Showing up uninvited might start gossip.

But Damian called Isabelle for him. She answered and walked back to the living room, meeting Wilbur as he came down.

“Mr. Crowther,” Isabelle said, taking a seat on the living room sofa.

She knew a fair bit about Kylie and him. Kylie had asked her to keep it quiet, so she hadn’t said anything.

A maid brought over a plate of fruit and set it before her.

“Mrs. Cross. Wilbur greeted her and sat down opposite.

Isabelle asked, “You wanted to see me?”

“Yes.” Wilbur made an agreeing sound but seemed unsure how to begin.

Isabelle spoke first. “Kylie probably won’t be coming back. The pieces she’s designing for Beatrice will be sent to my studio.”

“I need to find her,” Wilbur said.

Isabelle asked again. “Why?”

Wilbur fell silent.

Why do I need to find her? To clean up the current scandal?

Would that sound selfish?

“She’s not coming back. She’s decided to build her career abroad.” Isabelle studied him. “Would you marry her?”

Wilbur remained silent.

Probably not.

Isabelle said, “A young woman has her pride. If you just want her back to fix the rumors and make things easier for Ryan-to use her to end the gossip-what would be in it for her?”
