Chapter 444 Trust You With Isabelic
“Hi, Isabelle,” Eric responded, then gave Damian a nod
“Jonathan is upstairs talking with your Grandpa. Would you like to go see them?” Eric asked.
“Yes.” Isabelle had been thinking the same thing.
She glanced at Damian. He took her hand, and they walked inside.
Just as they entered, Jonathan and Christian’s assistant, Victoria Lewis, was coming out of the room.
“Mr. Cross,” smiled Victoria. Her eyes shifted to Isabelle. “Mrs. Cross.”
Damian nodded slightly and said to Isabelle, “Grandpa’s executive assistant, Victoria/
Isabelle smiled and nodded at her.
Victoria was around thirty, with slender cheeks and a classic oval face that showed a touch of weariness.
Her short hair was neat, her makeup light. She wore a professional suit and carried a thick folder.
On her right ring finger was a deep, faded band mark.
Noticing Isabelle’s gaze on her hand, Victoria subtly drew it back and offered a faint, strained smile.
Isabelle looked away.
“Grandpa has been waiting for you,” Jonathan said.
“Go on in. I need a word with Jonathan,” Damian said, gently touching her head.
“Okay.” Isabelle nodded and entered the room.
“Mr. Cross, Mr. Tucker, I’ll take my leave now,” Victoria said.
Both men nodded, and she left Foster Manor.

“How is Christian? You wouldn’t say last night,” Damian said. He hadn’t wanted to bring it up around Isabelle in case the news wa
bad.
He wanted to tell her last night, but he held back.
Jonathan said, “Some heart trouble. At his age, with his body already weakened, bypass surgery would be too risky. They can onl manage it conservatively.”
That, plus the stroke.
Christian had been in plenty of fights in his youth–the issues ran deeper than this.
Jonathan kept his voice low. “Your parents and mine already know. We just haven’t told your sister.”
“The two pregnant ones especially,” Damian paused. “About what Christian mentioned this morning…”

Seeing Sephia approach behind Damian, Jonathan patted its arm. “We’ll talk later.
“Dami…” Sophia said, then remembered all those feolish things she’d done and saw the coolness in his eyes. She corrected herself
“Damian.”
Damian gave a slight nod.
“Dinner’s ready. I sent a message in the group chat, but ho one replied, so I came up,” Sophia said, pressing her lips together and avoiding their eyes.
My brother doesn’t really like me. It hurts, but I still want to be close to him.
“Got it,” Jonathan replied.

The three stood together for a moment. When no conversation came, Sophia hedded downstairs first.
Once she was out of earshot, Jonathan turned to Damian. “Grandpa has his own plans. None of us has objections.”
Damian asked nothing further and simply nodded silently.
“You should go in, too. I’ll head down first,” Jonathan said.
“Alright.” Damian watched him go.
He walked to Christian’s door, which was slightly ajar. Caroline, Camellia, and Isabelle were all by the bed talking with Christian.
“You’re here,” Christian said, smiling at Damian.
“I am.” Damian moved to the bedside.
Christian lay propped against the headboard, an IV in his thin, almost skeletal hand. His sallow face made his bones more pronounced.
“Come here,” Christian motioned to him.
Damian stepped forward and took his hand. It was cool, nearly cold, and the grip was faint, barely there. “Christian.”
Christian said, “I trust you with Isabelle. You’ll need to help the Foster family going forward…”
Before he could finish, Isabelle cut in, upset, “Grandpa, what are you saying?”
Damian placed his other hand on her shoulder and rubbed it gently, comforting her.

Christian smiled weakly, “You and your mother have always been my biggest worry. After all these years, you’re finally back.”
