“How did you get so slim? Has Damian been giving you a hard time again?” Abigail nudged her arm and added some meat to her plate.

“How would he dare? He wouldn’t even if he had ten doses of extra courage,” Isabelle teased, picking up her fork to eat.

“Look at me–I’ve gotten so chubby,” Abigail said, pinching her own cheeks.

She was starting to show her pregnancy, and even had a double chin now.

Abigail was only about four weeks further along than Isabelle, but she looked noticeably bigger.

“Jonathan’s taking such good care of you. You’ve

gained weight, but he looks like he’s lost some,” Isabelle said with a laugh.

“You have no idea–I eat five or six meals a day now,” Abigail whispered, as if sharing a secret.

Isabelle was surprised.

She knew appetite could grow during pregnancy, and eating smaller meals more often was normal. But five or six times a day? That really caught her off guard.

Would I end up like that, too, later on?

Jonathan just smiled without saying anything, quietly serving Abigan more food.

Across the table, Sophia watched them chatting and laughing, feeling a pang inside.

Abigail was Jonathan’s wife. Sophia had spent much more time with her than Isabelle had–so why didn’t she feel as close?

She pressed her lips together, picking at her food absently.

It feels like no one really wants to talk to me anymore.

Damian came downstairs while Isabelle was still eating and chatting with Abigail.

Jonathan sat beside them, peeling shrimp for both and listening with a smile.

“What were you talking about up there for so long?” Isabelle asked with a smile, sliding her plate of shrimp toward Damian.

Before sitting, Damian ruffled her hair. “Just guy stuff.”

“Hey, that’s not fair. I peeled those for you, and you just hand them over to your husband,” Jonathan said, frowning playfully.

“You’re really getting jealous over shrimp?” Damian gave him a cool look.

Isabelle and Abigail, sitting between them, both laughed.

“So all my hard work just went to you two,” Jonathan muttered. “Some thanks I get.”

“I can’t eat anymore either,” Abigail said, sliding her plate toward Damian, too.

“Thank you, Abigail. And thank you, Jon–a–than,” Damian said, stretching out his nage.

“All of you combined are over a hundred years old, still acting like kids,” Louis commented from the side, shaking his head.

When have I ever heard Damian talk like that? I’m getting goosebumps.

Everyone laughed.

Sophia sipped her soup quietly.

If I acted like that, my family would say I’m being spoiled and overly sentimental.

Her mood sank a little more, and a hint of disappointment showed on her face.

Maybe I was just too sensitive in the past.

After dinner, everyone gradually scattered. Damian and Jonathan were still talking upstairs, while isabelle and Abigail sat chatting on a two–seater swing in the yard.

Late into the night, the two men still hadn’t come down.

Victoria, who had left that afternoon, returned with two men in suits.

“Mrs. Cross, Mrs. Tucker.” Victoria greeted them briefly before leading the two men upstairs.

“Those men behind her look like lawyers from Honor Law Firm,” Isabelle remarked.

“Part of the company’s legal team,” Abigail said, leaning back on the swing.

Tonight, Foster Manor was brightly lit. The Foster family was on the verge of change.

Isabelle and Abigail thought about going upstairs to see, but the staff asked them to wait downstairs.

The two joined Caroline and Regina, and they began chatting quietly. At one point, Isabelle brought up her time as an exchange student.

“Back then, your mother and I were traveling abroad. We just gave him a few instructions and showed him your photo. But he was so shy–he saw you up close many times but never dared to say hello. He’d even turn and walk away if you were right in front of him,” Regina recalled.

“You were very introverted back then. If we’d told you, you probably would’ve avoided him completely,” Caroline added with a laugh. “You didn’t have a single male friend around. You wouldn’t have even known if someone liked you.”

Abigail clicked her tongue. “So you two went from school uniforms to wedding dresses?”

Isabelle looked puzzled.

He saw me up close many times, but didn’t want to meet me?
