Chapter 456 Riverside Encounters
Isabelle had loved Buffalo wings more than anything, but she never touched them again after that day.
Until today at noon, when he was out on a business lunch and saw Isabelle standing in line with Bruce to buy some.
“Let’s go,” Gary said.
Harper stood up and left with him toward the subway station.

By the riverside, it felt like two separate worlds had formed–one with tables so exclusive they couldn’t be booked without connections, and the other a simple food stall where two people shared a meal sitting on foldable camping chairs.
“What’s taking them so long?” Isabelle glanced toward the restaurant’s main building.
Damian didn’t respond, just continued holding her hand, absently tracing her fingers with his thumb.
Her hands were slender, and the string of patio lights above them cast a soft glow on her skin, making it look almost luminous. On her nails were the press–ons Abigail had given her.
This set was different from the last–a simple, matte dusty pink with no designs, clean and understated, making her fingers appear even more delicate.
Before their food arrived, Brian came out carrying a bottle of Romanée–Conti.
Just as he sat down, a tall, middle–aged man approached, wearing a broad smile and holding a wine glass in one hand and a bottle of Château Lafite Rothschild in the other.
“Mr. Hughes, Mr. Cross,” the man said with a slight, practiced nod and a smile.
Damian glanced up briefly.
Brian said evenly, “My last name is Hughes. He’s Mr. Cross.”
The man stiffened awkwardly but quickly recovered with an apologetic smile.
Everyone had heard that Cypher Group had two notable figures–one was the cold, formidable “kingpin“, and the other was the easygoing, somewhat untamed scion of the Hughes family.
But judging by appearances now, the one casually playing with a woman’s hand seemed more like the carefree one?
He’d been trying to figure out who was who earlier–these two kept a very low public profile, with hardly any photos or details available online. He hadn’t expected them to be this low–key, showing up in athletic wear without any visible entourage.
They probably were approachable after all
“Can I help you?” Damian raised an eyebrow, his gaze still lingering on Isabelle’s hand.
Isabelle studied the man. He looked familiar, but she couldn’t quite place him. Something about him felt slick, untrustworthy.
“Nothing in particular i just saw you gentlemen dining here and wanted to offer you a fine bottle of wine to enjoy.”
The man set the bottle on the table and was about to open it when he noticed the Romanée Conti already in front of Brian

He paused, looking momentarily embarrassed, but pushed forward with the smile anyway.

“I’m Gareth Williams, founder of Sarwath Electric. Here’s my card. I hope we might find an opportunity to work together in the future.”
Neither Brian nor Damian responded. Isabelle gently squeezed Damian’s hand and gave him a meaningful look.
Gareth–Diana’s deadbeat dad!
No wonder he looked familiar. It was him!
Isabelle had never actually met Gareth before, but she’d seen him once in an old photo on Diana’s phone, though her memory was hazy.
And when Gareth had walked out on Diana and her mother, Isabelle hadn’t met them yet, so he naturally didn’t recognize Isabelle.
He’d been building his business in another state until recently. Was he back now?
Damian straightened slightly and said to him, “That won’t be necessary. Thank you.”

“Since I’m already here, and it’s an honor to meet you both, I’ll leave the wine for you. Enjoy your evening!”
Just as Gareth was about to leave, he nearly collided with Diana, who was returning from the restroom.
Their eyes met, and in that instant, both of their expressions turned icy.
Gareth assumed she was here to make trouble–she’d done it plenty of times before. If it weren’t for Diana constantly undermining him, he wouldn’t have had to rebuild his business out of state. And now, here she was again?
Did she have tracking devices on him?
He’d only been back a few days, and Diana already knew.
Gareth pulled her aside by the arm and asked through gritted teeth, “What are you doing here?!”
Haven’t you ruined enough for me already?!
He held back the last sentence.
He looked Diana up and down. She was wearing generic, off–brand clothes and had come out in flip–flops. She hadn’t even bothered with makeup–aside from her pretty face, she had no polish, no presentation,
How utterly embarrassing!
