Chapter 487 A Stern Warning
Chapter 487 A Stern Warning
“That old weasel!” Diana mottered under her breath.
Gareth put on a broad, ingratiating smile and nodded toward Damian. “Mr. Cross! It’s you!”
Damian stood leaning against the front fender of the car, hands in his pockets, his expression unreadable and cold.
“What do you want?”

Gareth’s eyes darted to the passenger seat, where Diana was sitting. Her silhouette was just visible through the window.
He had thought it was Brian in the car–lately, Brian had been the one picking Diana up. Gareth had been hoping to run into Brian to have a word with him. Otherwise, losing that 300–million–dollar deal was a devastating blow, and he desperately needed to find another way to recover the loss.
He hadn’t counted on Bruce’s counter–surveillance skills being so sharp–they’d been followed and caught red–handed.
Being intercepted like this in the middle of the street was deeply embarrassing.

“I was just… looking for my daughter,” he stammered, unable to conjure a better excuse on the spot.
Damian said nothing, just continued to watch him with that steady, penetrating gaze.
Gareth felt the hairs on the back of his neck prickle under the scrutiny.
Watching from inside the car, Diana whispered, “Your husband looks absolutely terrifying right now–like he’s about to devour someone whole. I’ve never seen him look this fierce.”
Isabelle hadn’t seen this commanding side of him in a long time either. She didn’t recall him often carrying this kind of intimidating aura–no wonder people in the business world called him cold and unapproachable.
He truly looked icy now, the kind of cold that created an invisible barrier.
The more Isabelle looked, the more she thought… Damian was actually kind of breathtaking like this.
“Hey, you’re spacing out,” Diana said, glancing back at her.
Γ
Isabelle smiled. This version of Damian was a rare sight, and she couldn’t help stealing a few more glances. “Honestly, I haven’t seen him like this in ages.”
She had almost forgotten Damian’s old, stern demeanor. At the office, he always wore that impassive expression–even Louis sometimes called him “the stone statue“.
She had seen this look once before, back when he was confronting Gary. But after they got together, Isabelle hardly ever saw such severity directed at her.
It seemed Damian had genuinely softened around her.
“As I recall, your family only lists Madeline. When did you become a father?” Damian asked, his voice flat.
Gareth’s heart stuttered. He clicked his tongue, scrambling for a response.

The Word was that Brian used to be Damian’s executive assistant. Brian came from old money himself, and now he co–managed the company with Damian On top of that, Brian was a close friend and classmate of Damian’s wife. Their circles were tightly knit.
If anything happened to Brian, Damian would undoubtedly step in.
But then why was Diana working out of a smatt design studio?
Gareth’s mind raced, trying to connect the dots.
“Sorry, Mr. Cross, family matters can be a bit… complicated…”
He started to elaborate, but Damian cut him off. “I’m not interested in your family affairs.
“Diana has made it clear she doesn’t want to see you. The message was delivered last time–stop harassing her.”
Gareth pressed, “Mr. Cross, you’re not her. How can you be sure she doesn’t want to see me?”
Damian’s lips curled into a cold smirk. “If she wanted to see you, she wouldn’t have had me get out of the car to deal with you. Isn’t that clear enough?”
A man who had betrayed his own family–what credibility did he have left?
It was the same with character, with handling affairs, with doing business.
Family was the clearest reflection of a man’s integrity.
A man who couldn’t manage his own home might ride a wave of success in business for a while, but eventually, his own arrogance would circle back to destroy him.
Gareth swallowed hard.
His original plan had been to go directly to her studio, but the security there was tight and hostile–they simply wouldn’t let him in.
He had a strong suspicion the guards recognized him and were deliberately keeping him out.
He had tried to ask a few questions, but they just stared back, stone–faced.
Later, after he left, he saw them smiling and warmly welcoming other visitors.
Thoroughly dismissed by Damian, Gareth slunk back to his car and drove off, thoroughly defeated.
Damian and Bruce returned to their vehicle.
“Mr. Cross, that was seriously cool,” Diana said, giving him an appreciative thumbs–up.
“Mr. Cross, seriously cool,” Isabelle echoed playfully.
Damian’s previously stern expression almost cracked at their synchronized praise. He couldn’t stop the corner of his mouth from twitching upward.
