“Did you toss them out?” Lynn asked.
Daisy shook her head. “No.”
Lynn pressed, “Then why are you keeping them?”
“In case I need to lie about having a boyfriend to get my dad off my back,” Daisy said.
They both laughed.
So, Anthony’s clothes did come in handy after all.
“But you know what he said to me? He said, ‘I don’t date. Don’t use me to fool your dad,” Daisy sighed.
“And then what?” Lynn asked, rolling over to look at her with interest.

Daisy played with a strand of her hair. “I had to listen to him. He’s an innocent party, after all. So I told my dad we broke up. You have no idea what my dad said.”
Lynn was even more curious now.
Daisy imitated her father’s stern voice. “You were together less than a month and already broke up? It must be because you were too picky.”
She frowned, remembering. “I was speechless. And then he told me to go win Anthony back.”
Lynn burst out laughing. “Your whole relationship was a mess.”
“It wasn’t a real relationship! Don’t go around saying we were” Daisy protested.
Poor Anthony. He was forced into a fake relationship and then got dumped. Talk about unlucky.
Luckily, they all moved in the same circles. Anthony understood Daisy’s situation and didn’t make a big deal out of it. If he had, Daisy might have ended up having to marry him.
Daisy suddenly turned to Lynn. “Hey, is Anthony really that good–looking?”
Lynn raised an eyebrow. “Oh? What’s on your mind?”
Daisy hesitated.
“Maybe I’ll sneak a few pictures for you someday,” Lynn teased.
“No thanks,” Daisy said quickly.

Meanwhile, Diana knocked on Brian’s hotel room door, holding some leftover barbecue skewers.
“You came here and didn’t even tell me?” she complained.

Brian smiled, pulled her inside, and closed the door
He said, “Did Damian tell you I was here?”
“He did,” Diana said. “But if he hadn’t, would you have kept it a secret? Or are you hiding another woman in here?”
She shoved the skewers into his hands and then marched past him into the room, looking around.

Brian just chuckled, following behind her and setting the food down on a table, “There wasn’t much work left. I was planning to come find you downstairs in a bit. Guess Damian’s got a big mouth.”
Diana eyed the closed laptop and neatly stacked papers on the desk. “Or maybe he just wanted to get back at me for being a third wheel earlier. Or maybe you didn’t want me to know. Otherwise, you would’ve texted me.”
“All finished?” she asked, gesturing to the work.
“All finished,” Brian confirmed.
“Well, then-”
Before she could finish, Brian pulled her into his arms. One hand held her waist, the other cradled the back of her head as he leaned down and kissed her.
Diana stiffened, her hands clutching the fabric of his shirt at his sides, afraid she’d stumble and hit the table behind her.
Brian slid a hand under her thighs, lifted her up, and gently deposited her on the sofa, bracing a knee beside her.
“Don’t you trust me?” he asked, a hint of a smirk playing on his lips, though his eyes held a flicker of hurt. He propped himself up on one elbow, looking down at her.
“You just showed up without a word. How was I supposed to know if you had some woman in here?” she muttered.
Brian’s expression darkened. He pinched her chin and bit her lower lip lightly.
“Ouch…” Diana swatted at his arm.
He rubbed his thumb roughly over the spot he’d bitten.
He’d just finished dealing with Gareth over the past couple of days and hadn’t had a chance to tell her yet. Then he’d been swamped with work at the office, and Damian mentioned they were all here for a team retreat.
Damian had decided to stay with Isabelle, so he’d sent Brian here to finish up. Brian had actually been planning to surprise her, but then she’d gone and said that.
“Some other woman?” Brian asked, his voice low and dangerous.
Diana stayed quiet.
Seeing her silent, Brian’s heart softened a little.
Isabelle had mentioned that Gareth had been coming around lately, bothering her. He was doing just fine out of town, and no one knew why he’d come back here to stir up trouble.
Brian leaned down, wrapped his arms around her, and pressed kisses along her neck.
