Chapter 509 She Felt Lucky Too
Brian was already in the shower, covered in soap suds.

The sound of water dripping filled the bathroom. He didn’t notice Diana had already undressed behind him. He only realized something was happening when she wrapped her arms around him from behind.
He stiffened for a moment, catching a glimpse of her blurry reflection in the mirror.
He turned around, embracing her. He adjusted the shower head, letting warm water cascade over her.
Diana held him tight and asked, “Did Gareth go looking for trouble with you?”
“Not exactly trouble,” Brian said as he squeezed more body wash into his hand and started lathering her back.
“Just ignore him.”
“I am ignoring him.”
Brian focused on washing her as he asked, “Has he been giving you a hard time?”
“Not really. I just find him irritating. I was worried he might cause problems for you,” she admitted.
What she was more afraid of was Brian ending up like Gareth.
It wasn’t just about whether they were a good match; Diana was a few years older than him, which put a lot of pressure on her. She even felt a bit insecure at times.
“Hmm,” Brian murmured. “You can be irritated with him, but don’t get annoyed with me. I’m the loyal type, you know.”
Diana looked up at him, blinking her big eyes.
“You’d better not cheat on me,” Brian warned, half–joking. “I’m the kind of guy who doesn’t care about shame. If you ever cheat on me, I’ll haunt you every single day.”
Diana couldn’t help but smile.
Before she could say anything else, Brian began rinsing the suds off her.
She remembered Isabelle mentioning once that Damian would sometimes bathe her at night. She’d envied Isabelle back then– that a powerful man like Damian would humble himself like that for someone.
But seeing Brian like this now, she felt lucky too.
She wasn’t pregnant, but Brian still washed her.
Before, it was usually after sex. Now, it just felt a little different.
After the bath, Brian wrapped her in a towel and carried her to the bed.
“Anything else you want to ask?” Brian asked, turning off the light. He kissed her, his voice husky with desire. “If not, it’s time we got down to something else…”

Before he could finish speaking, Brian’s hand slid under the towel.
“I’ve been holding back for a long time…” he murmured against her skin.
He’d wanted to take her right there in the shower.

The lights on the balcony were off. Isabelle stepped out of the shower to find Damian standing there.
He held a cigarette. The sea breeze drifted past now and then, making the ember glow like a tiny red dot in the dark. A long ash had formed; with a slight flick, it fell away.
Isabelle watched him for a moment before walking over.
Hearing the movement behind him, Damian quickly stubbed out the cigarette and patted his hands to dispel the lingering smell.
“What’s wrong?” Isabelle asked.
Damian smiled, “Nothing.”
Isabelle didn’t press further. She stood beside him, sharing the sea breeze.
It had been a long time since Damian last smoked. The last time was when he had a misunderstanding with Isabelle, and he smoked alone through entire nights.
This was how he dealt with having something on his mind–finding a quiet spot alone, sometimes just lighting a cigarette without even taking a puff.
This time, it seemed to have started from the day Isabelle asked him if he could let go of things from the past.
Now Isabelle was even more certain just how much those old things still bothered Damian.
She took his hand, placed it on her shoulder, and nestled into his embrace.
Damian chuckled softly and wrapped his arms around her from behind.
After a long while, Isabelle asked, “Is there still room for a rocking chair in your
office?”
“Of course…” Damian paused, catching on. “You want to come to work with me?”
Isabelle teased, “Yeah, to clear things up–to prove I’m not abusing you at home.”
Damian hesitated for a moment before saying, “You don’t have to go if you don’t want to. You should rest at home. If you want to go out, take Bruce.”
Isabelle leaned her head back, resting it against his chest.
I should still go. I should keep him company more, even if I don’t do anything.
He seemed to genuinely enjoy having Isabelle by his side. Even if they were just quiet together, it made him feel at ease.
