Chapter 595 A Safe Return

When Joseph got back from running his errands and saw what was happening, he quickly draped the coat he’d had over his arm around Lynn’s shoulders.

An egg landed on his suit.

Lynn’s legs felt weak, and her mind had gone completely blank.

The real estate agent and the male client nearby exchanged quick glances and hurried out of the courtyard one after another.

“Forget this place. That old woman’s impossible to deal with. Find me something else. This property’s got bad energy anyway,” the male client mumbled as he left with the agent.

The agent glanced back at the old woman with visible unease. Looked like he’d need to mentally prepare himself next time before bringing clients here.

Daisy started toward them. Joseph guided Lynn into the car, got behind the wheel, and pulled away immediately.

Daisy was standing by the passenger door. Her hand hadn’t even reached the handle when the car drove off right in front of her.

She stood there stunned for a few seconds before it hit her. “Hey! What about me?”

She stamped her foot in frustration. “Seriously? You forgot your own sister?”

The car was already halfway down the block.

Joseph glanced in the rearview mirror at Lynn leaning against the window and realized he’d actually forgotten about Daisy.

When they got back to the Clarks‘ place, Lynn was still sitting in the car, completely zoned out.

Joseph opened the door. Seeing her like that, he grabbed a tissue and gently wiped the egg yolk from her forehead.

“You didn’t even think to dodge,” he murmured softly, almost like he was scolding her.

When Daisy climbed out of the taxi she’d caught, she walked right into that scene.

She stepped up to Joseph and shoved his shoulder.

He looked at her. “You didn’t get in the car?”

“I-” Daisy was so annoyed she was grinding her teeth.t’s not like you gave me a chance. You couldn’t even glance back. I’m your actual sister, and I was still standing there.”

“I’ll pay attention next time.” Joseph tore off a tissue and handed it to her. “Clean yourself up.”

“You want there to be a next time?” This brother was impossible.

Lynn watched them, got out of the car, still in a daze.

She took off her coat and noticed the egg yolk on the back. “Sorry. I got you guys dragged into this.”

“Don’t even start with that.” Daisy frowned.

Joseph took the coat from her. “Go upstairs and wash up right now.”

He brushed at Daisy’s hair. “This curly hair with egg in it kinda looks like spaghetti with marinara.”

Daisy pushed his hand away. Now was so not the time for jokes.

Lynn pressed her lips together, almost smiling.

“Use my bathroom. The guest room’s a mess,” Joseph said to Lynn.

Daisy headed to her own room to clean up. Lynn had been sharing with her lately, so the guest room hadn’t been touched.

That meant Lynn had to use Joseph’s.

Joseph watched them go upstairs, set the coat aside, and called someone to come pick up the car for cleaning.

Lynn stood under the shower, hot water streaming down. She worked the shampoo through her hair carefully, washing it over and over.

Adrian and Priscilla usually got home in the evenings.

By the time Daisy came downstairs after her shower, Joseph was in the kitchen cooking, and Lucas had just walked in from the yard.

“You’re back?” Daisy greeted him.

Joseph looked up. “You eating here?”

Lucas didn’t answer. Instead, he asked, “Where’s Lynn?”

“Showering upstairs.” Daisy pointed toward Joseph’s room. “In my brother’s bathroom.”

Lucas paused mid–step.

Joseph quickly added, “They got stuff in their hair messing around. Guest room wasn’t ready, so she used

mine.”

Lucas nodded.

Daisy bit her lip gently.

After Lucas headed upstairs, Daisy lowered her voice to Joseph. “Looks like Lucas is really into her. He seemed kinda off about her using your shower. I shouldve just used yours and let her use mine when I knew he was coming”

Joseph glanced toward the stairs. “I’m not gonna steal his girl.”
