Chapter 606 Joseph’s Visit

“Lynn?” From across the room, Daisy called out, half–afraid Lynn was still stuck in her own thoughts.

With a soft smile, Lynn turned to her. “What others think is their business; what we do is ours. We cant let/ a single comment from someone negate all the effort and dreams we started with.”

A moment of silence passed before Daisy let out a long hum. “Lynn, you’ve grown up!”

Amused, Lynn fell silent–Daisy sounded like a doting parent scolding a child.

Spotting Joseph as Lynn and Daisy surveyed the second floor of the courtyard house, Daisy asked, “Why are you here, Joseph?”

Glancing at the workers cleaning the entrance, Joseph turned back. “Heard you were coming here, and I had nothing to do at home, so I figured I’d drop by.”

Truth was, he’d come to keep an eye on things, fearing a repeat of the earlier mess.

Instantly seeing through his excuse, Daisy nodded. She couldn’t help but notice how often his gaze lingered on Lynn.

She sighed inwardly.

Joseph had arranged a safe place for Lynn when the Murphys were in trouble, yet Lucas had swept in, fallen head over heels, and kept her all to himself.

Joseph’s feelings for Lynn were a secret she dared not share–not even with Lynn, who’d known him since childhood and saw him only as a close friend.

After wandering around the courtyard for a while, Lynn missed Lucas.

She asked Daisy to drive her back, and Joseph–having just arrived–followed them out of the yard.

Watching Daisy’s car pull away, he glanced at the workers mopping the floor, a mix of emotions churning

in his chest.

From the driver’s seat, Daisy teased as Lynn unbuckled her seatbelt, ready to get out, “Honeymoon vibes!”

Shaking her head with a laugh, Lynn replied, “Girl, what are you thinking? I’m just going with him on a business trip–hardly a honeymoon.”

Pressing her lips together, Daisy said nothing, pulling a small bottle of perfume from the glove compartment. “For you.”

Taking it without hesitation, Lynn weighed the bottle in her hand. “Thanks.”

She waved as Daisy drove off, then stared at the perfume–she didn’t recognize the brand, but knowing Daisy, it must be nice.

Humming a tune, she headed toward the house, pushing the door open and calling out, “Brute!”

On the phone, Lucas pulled the device away from his ear the second he heard her voice.

Grinning, Lynn ran over to jump into his arms, her legs wrapping around his firm waist.

Afraid she’d fall, Lucas supported her hips with one hand.

“Brute, I missed you,” she said, planting a hard kiss on his cheek.

As he glanced down at her, a faint smile played on Lucas‘ lips. “Can’t you call me something else?”

“Nope! Not after you’ve been such a rascal!”

Hooking her hands around his neck, Lynn gazed at his soft, smiling face, only to freeze when she noticed his still–connected phone.

Scrambling off his body, she stepped back two paces, her lips pressed tight in silence.

“Scared now? I barely held you for a minute.” Lucas chuckled, a hint of amusement in his voice.

Too nervous to speak, Lynn stared at the phone.

Lucas brought it back to his ear. “Finalize the plan and send it to me,” he said, then hung up.

Sheepishly, Lynn asked, “You were on a call?”

“Mm, handling some work stuff.”

“Why didn’t you tell me?” she complained lightly.

With a smile, Lucas replied, “I did.”

He didn’t mind one bit that his team might have heard her calling him “brute“-if anything, he liked it.

Walking into the kitchen, he pulled a plate of blue cheese out of the refrigerator.

Lynn had smelled their sweet scent when she walked in, but her mind had been too focused on Lucas to pay it much attention.

Now, she followed him eagerly.

Sitting down at the table, he said, “Didn’t know you’d be back so early. I just put them in the fridge–they’ll taste even better if they’re chilled a bit longer.”
