She pecked the corner of his mouth, and then pressed her cheek to his chest to feel his heartbeat.

Her eyes fell on the scarf beside them.

Yesterday when they came back, she’d thought it was lost forever. But this man had gone out in the middle of the night to find it.

Lynn couldn’t help but be moved.

In his sleep, Lucas put an arm around her waist and pulled the blanket up over her shoulders.

It seemed second nature to him.

Lynn watched him, and then secretly kissed his chin.

She was still reliving the moment when he’d knelt on one knee.

Lucas relented and followed her, reluctantly standing beside the white deer.
