Lucas asked, “So what flowers do you like?”

In the preferences section Daisy had given him, nothing was mentioned about her favorite flowers.
Lynn twirled the red rose in her hand, replying, “Maybe I just don’t like red roses.”
Lucas laughed out loud.
Lynn laughed too.
It reminded them of the time Lucas avoided eating crab while Lynn insisted, he try it.
They’d never shared the same tastes. And yet here they were a couple.
She didn’t like red roses. He’d only ever given red roses.
Lynn didn’t have any particular favorite flower. It was just that red roses were, in her mind, what middle–aged and older people liked, so cliché and overdone. She really didn’t like them.
“Next time, if you don’t like something, just tell me,” Lucas said, reaching for the rose.
Lynn pulled it closer to herself and didn’t give it back. “Will you give me whatever I like?”
“It depends on your behavior,” he replied.
Lynn’s happiness lasted two seconds before he brought her back to earth. She asked crossly, “How do you want me to behave?”
With no one around, he openly said, “You were great last night.”
Last night, lying in bed afterward, Lucas had said, “I was thoroughly satisfied.”
Lynn made a clicking sound and shoved the rose back into his chest. “In your dreams!”
She was about to praise him, but his thoughts were far from noble.
Annoyed, she walked toward the manor house.
After visiting Pemberley Manor once, she’d kept thinking about coming back with someone she loved.
Today, she was here with that someone.
The first time and this time were completely different.
The first time, she was just a tourist, taking photos, walking where the Queen walked, experiencing and feeling.
But back then, she hadn’t felt anything special.

Today, walking through the great hall with Lucas‘ hand in hers, climbing the stairs full of history, she understood the awe the Queen must have felt.
With exquisite murals and intricate sculptures, it was hard for the owner not to take pride in such a beautiful estate.
Lynn had once thought that after breaking off her engagement with Lucas, she would find it hard to accept another marriage without love.
She became unwilling to compromise with the world, unwilling to settle because of her age.
No one had expected that Lucas, who had once been so prejudiced against Lynn, would let go of that stubborn bias and bow his head for her.
Under the sunset, Pemberley Manor brought tears to her eyes.
Before, Lynn hadn’t understood its romance. Now, she did.
Her gaze stopped at the sculpture of the Queen looking back.
But Lucas‘ gaze never left her.
The entire tour took them over three hours.
At some point, Lucas noticed Lynn was getting tired, but her enthusiasm never waned. When they finished, he wanted to have the car drive them back, but Lynn refused.
She wanted Lucas to walk with her.
The car followed behind, lights casting long shadows of them holding hands.
“Will you come tomorrow?” Lucas asked.
“No matter how many times I see it, its power is always this strong,” Lynn said, smiling at Lucas. “But if we come again tomorrow, it might feel different.”
After she spoke, Lynn noticed Lucas‘ palms were sweating. He held her hand tighter.
He stopped walking and turned to face her.
The car stopped too.
He pulled a red velvet box from his pocket and went down on one knee in front of her.
The moment he opened the box, the ring sparkled in the car’s headlights.
Lynn froze.
Lucas was proposing.
They were both too nervous to speak.
