Isabelle suddenly asked, “I didn’t see that Leonard you mentioned today.”

Lynn looked around. Only a couple of elderly men were playing chess and offering free medical consultations.

Isabelle stood up. “Maybe he had a change of heart. Or maybe he’s old and sick and can’t keep it up.”

She intended to chat with Lynn longer, but a few elderly women arrived for consultations, including the old lady from the courtyard who had brought her.

That casual remark reminded Lynn.

Earlier during the consultations, one of the old men who usually played chess had mentioned it.

Leonard was ill. His son couldn’t come back. He was lying alone at home, refusing to go to the hospital.

“I’ll go. He dumped buckets of sewage in front of my door for days. I should go laugh at him.” Lynn smiled.

John chuckled at her response.

That afternoon, Lynn borrowed two bodyguards from Lucas. With a nurse and a medical kit, she followed the directions to Leonard’s house.

The door was slightly ajar. A few chickens and a small dog were inside.

The dog barked when it saw them.

Leonard, lying on the bed inside, stirred at the noise.

He coughed, phlegm rattling in his throat. When he walked outside and saw Lynn and the two men in black.

Lynn smiled. “I haven’t seen you loitering at my door the last couple of days, so I thought I’d check on you. Just so you don’t keep thinking I’m up to something.”

Leonard gave a cold laugh. “Aren’t you up to something right now?”

Lynn laughed, “You’re right. I am.”

She glanced at the bodyguards. The two men stepped past her, took Leonard by the arms, and escorted him inside.

When Lynn and her group left Leonard’s house, several elderly men and women were standing outside

They’d clearly heard Leonard’s shouting.

But no one had dared go in to look.

“That Leonard! Dumped sewage at her door for nearly a month. No wonder she came after him.”

“Her clinic just opened today. She must be teaching him a lesson.”

“Leonard has been too arrogant. Just because her brother did something wrong, you don’t take it out on the whole family.”

“And I heard her brother actually helped several people sneak back. He might not be so bad.”

The crowd buzzed with talk.

When they saw Lynn come out with the two bodyguards and the nurse, they quickly fell silent and made

way.

Only after they left did the group hurry into Leonard’s house.

There sat Leonard in a chair, color slowly returning to his face. Old newspapers spread on the floor were stained with globs of phlegm.

Seeing everyone come in, Leonard slapped the table. “What are you looking at? None of your business! Get out!”

An old man chuckled, “I thought you’d be dead! That would’ve messed with our neighbors‘ fortunes.”

A woman asked in surprise, “Did you finally cough up that phlegm you’ve been holding for years?”

It was pretty disgusting.

Someone grabbed a newspaper to cover the mess.

“I thought Dr. Murphy was coming to get back at you, but I didn’t expect her to check on you,” said a chess- playing old man. “I went to the free medical consultation today. I’m the one who told her about you. I didn’t think she’d actually come. She’s pretty decent. Don’t give her a hard time anymore.”
