When Daisy got home, she found Adrian and Priscilla sitting at the table in the living room, staring blankly at several thick stacks of documents and certificates.
“What are you looking at?” Daisy walked over in her loose dress, munching on an apple.
“Property ownership certificates….” She looked at the passport on the table, along with various shareholding documents.
She slumped lazily into a chair. “Is this my wedding gift? You should keep it. Mr. Vale has plenty of money. I don’t need it.”
Adrian turned to look at his daughter, who showed none of the grace expected of a young lady.
“I don’t have that kind of money. And I’m not giving you my life savings. These are from your Mr. Vale. He had them delivered this morning. They’re all in your name.”
Daisy paused mid–bite.
She set down the apple, half–convinced, and opened one of the documents. They all had her name on
them.
“Is he really that rich?” she muttered.
Why was he sending these now?
Priscilla sat elegantly with her coffee, watching Daisy, then the documents on the table.
“Ivy has finally made it.” Her eyes glistened. “The man who delivered the documents, Thomas, said the car transfer hasn’t been processed yet. It will take a little more time.”
“Is he giving me everything he owns?” Daisy muttered as she pulled out her phone to call him.
She didn’t need any of this. All she wanted was for her children to have a father. That was it.
The more she received, the more unsettled she felt.
She walked to the backyard and called. He picked up quickly.
“What’s wrong?” Anthony’s voice was soft.
“Why did you send all that stuff? Don’t send any more. I don’t want it.”
Anthony had only agreed to be the father of her children out of obligation. He shouldn’t have to give her these things.
I said I would give you and the children the best guarantee.”
“I don’t want it Guilt weighed in her voice.

Then what do you want? Aside from money, all I have left is myself. And I’ve already belonged to you for a while now, haven’t 12”
Dasy hung up in a panic. She looked around. No one was nearby.
She thought Anthotry had lost his mind.
After hanging up. Anthony smiled to himself.
He was still in recovery. Daisy didn’t want to disturb him, so she decided to wait until he came back to jalk.
After dinner, she went upstairs. A faint smell of oil paint lingered in the small living room.
She thought the wind might have knocked something over.
She walked to the corner where she usually painted and saw Anthony’s portrait set to one side. On the easel was a painting–her own mischievous profile.
She wood where Anthony had stood that day and looked at the painting.
She could almost picture him squeezing paint onto the palette, mixing oil, sketching the contours of a face, adjusting light and shadow.
This was what he’d painted that day.
As far as she knew. Anthony had no way of having a picture of her.
He’d painted it from memory
And to capture someone’s likeness so vividly, one had to have looked at their face hundreds, thousands of
times.
The half–finished portrait of Anthony–he had touched it up too. Now it looked even more alive.
Did Anthony like her?
By the time she realized it. her cheeks were already burning.
She couldn’t sleep that night.
Their relationship wasn’t public yet. Daisy wanted to wait until they had their marriage certificate. She was afraid people would gossip about Anthony. Afraid it would hurt him.
She stayed home, comfortable and at ease.
Anthony still wasn’t in the habit of sending messages. Daisy had grown used to the emptiness of their WhatsApp chat
Then one day Anthony sent her a rare message.
Where are you‘

Daisy had just woken from a nap. Too lazy to type, she sent a voice message.” At my parents‘ house.”
Then she went back to sleep.
She didn’t know how much time had passed. Something brushed lightly against her ear. It tickled.
