Chapter 656 A Place to Rest
Chapter 656 A Place to Rest
He had once thought he was stuck in the mud, unable to pull himself out.
Daisy had reached out and grabbed his hand.
He loved living with her. It finally felt like a home.

He hadn’t been to the office in nearly three months. All he wanted was to be with Daisy. To be with them.
It was fate.
That night in the hotel room, there hadn’t been any protection. But he hadn’t finished inside her.
And somehow, even after taking the pill, Daisy had still gotten pregnant. If that wasn’t destiny, what was?
Daisy’s heart ached for him even more after hearing that.
After dinner, Daisy was curled up on the sofa reading, wearing a loose nightgown. Anthony came over and sat down beside her.
“I want to talk to them,” Anthony said.
Daisy looked up at him. She’d love that.
She sat up straighter. “Of course.”
Anthony lay down and rested his head on Daisy’s lap.
Daisy’s breath caught. She looked down at him. His hair tickled her legs…
He turned onto his side, reached out, and touched her belly. He kissed it carefully, then pressed his palm flat against her stomach through her nightgown.
“Can they hear me when I talk?” Anthony asked.
“They should be able to by now…” Daisy wasn’t reading anymore. She was watching Anthony.
Anthony pressed his ear to her belly and listened intently.
Daisy picked up her book and held it in front of her face, pretending to read, so he wouldn’t see her blush.
Anthony’s breathing slowly became steady and even. His warm breath spread across her lap.
Daisy peeked over her book, then lowered it. She rested her tired hand on his shoulder.
He’s actually asleep.
She let out a quiet breath and carefully touched the thin line on his face. His skin had healed beautifully. It was smooth.

He looked so peaceful like this.

She didn’t know how long he slept. She didn’t wake him. She just kept her hand on him and eventually tell asleep herself, leaning against the back of the sofa.
When Anthony woke up, Daisy’s hand was still on him. He sat up carefully.
It was one in the morning.
For the first time in years, Anthony had fallen asleep at night. It hadn’t been long, but the feeling of deep rest was something he hadn’t experienced in forever.
And he’d fallen asleep on Daisy.
He looked at her. There was something about her–a faint, comforting scent that made him feel at ease.
He leaned toward her. The moment he did, Daisy’s eyes opened.
They stared at each other. One inch closer, and he would have been kissing her.
The air between them grew thick, wrapping them both in something almost suffocating.
Daisy didn’t move. She waited to see if he would kiss her.
If he tried, she wouldn’t say no.
But Anthony pulled back, startled by his own impulse. “Do you want a late–night snack?”
Daisy shifted on the sofa. They both sat there, awkward. “Yes.”
“I’ll make you something.” He walked away.
The next evening, Daisy was watching TV on the sofa. Anthony came over with a small plate of fruit.
He handed it to her and said, “I want to talk to them.”
Daisy took the plate. “Okay.”
Anthony lay down on her lap again. This time, he slept until two in the morning.
When he woke up, he woke Daisy too. Then he made her a snack.
Back in bed, Anthony still couldn’t fall asleep.
He wondered if the first night had been a fluke, what about tonight?
No matter where he lay, he couldn’t sleep. But the moment he rested his head on Daisy, he slept like a baby. So deeply that he didn’t even notice her touching his face.
He decided to try again tomorrow.
