She’d already risked it all. If Anthony refused again, she was done.

He knew exactly what she was doing. She was giving him an out–a way to save face.

Daisy swallowed hard when he agreed. She stood up and went back to her room.

She took deep breaths, biting her lip nervously.

She’d just invited Anthony into her bedroom. Oh God.

She lay down, her thoughts a jumbled mess. She rolled onto her side and set the extra pillow next to her.

If he actually slept here tonight, they’d probably end up sharing a bed from then on.

Her heart racing, she closed her eyes.

She was too tired to wait for him. She fell asleep before he even stepped inside.

Anthony lingered outside the door for a long time, hesitating. Then he pushed it open.

He walked in barefoot. Daisy’s breathing was already soft and steady.

He glanced at the pillow beside her. She used to hug that pillow at night. Tonight it was laid out neatly next to her–obviously for him.

He lay down carefully, pulling the blanket he’d brought over himself.

Daisy stirred anyway. She opened her eyes groggily.

“You’re here.”

“Yes. I’m here.”

She didn’t say anything else. She closed her eyes and went back to sleep.

Anthony looked at her, leaned over, and kissed her belly gently. Then he drew close to her and closed his

eyes.

This time, he slept until five in the morning. Seven full hours.

The sound of rain outside woke him.

It had been raining for a long time. He hadn’t even noticed.

He looked down at Daisy, then leaned over and kissed her forehead secretly. He touched her belly. “Good morning, my babies.”

He smiled, tucked the blanket around her, and walked out.

The rain stopped. The sun came out.

Daisy slept until nine. She’d gotten up once in the middle of the night to use the bathroom.

But she hadn’t seen Anthony anywhere.

When she finally got up for good, Anthony came back from outside.

“Where did you go?” Daisy looked at the bag in his hand.

“I got breakfast.” Anthony walked in.

He’d driven to the county to get a muffin sandwich–the kind with broth inside.

She hadn’t tasted them in years. The round trip took at least an hour, but Anthony had packed them carefully in an insulated bag.

Adrian had mentioned it to him. Daisy loved those treats, but you couldn’t get decent ones anywhere in the city. Adrian used to ride his motorcycle out to the countryside to buy them for her. Once they’d moved to the city, she’d never had any since.

Daisy held her belly and walked over.

Anthony stepped beside her and helped her sit down.

“Did you sleep?” Daisy looked up.

Anthony knew she’d invited him into her room on purpose last night.

“Yes. I talked to them and fell asleep.”

Daisy picked up a muffin and ate as she spoke, “Then talking to them at night is your job now.”

Anthony paused. Was she saying he could sleep with her from now on?

He picked up a muffin and put it in her bowl. “Okay.”

They both laughed softly.

At noon, Anthony went out. Daisy had nothing to do at home, so she put the baby’s clothes in the washing machine. She kept busy for a while before finally taking a nap.

Anthony texted her that he’d be home early. But when Daisy woke up, he still wasn’t back.

She’d woken up with a charley horse.

She tried to rotate her ankle to ease the pain, but it didn’t help this time.
