One baby cried. Then the other started crying too.

Anthony reached out and gently took each of their tiny fists in his hands. “You’re waking up my wife,” he said softly.
Joseph was about to say something when he realized the babies had stopped crying.
The two nannies came over with bottles.
Adrian pulled Anthony aside and sat him down. “Eat something, or Ivy will give you an earful when she wakes up.”
Anthony glanced at Daisy, still lying in the bed.
That did the trick.
Adrian had just figured it out that Anthony was completely whipped. Mentioning Daisy was guaranteed to work.
Anthony grunted in acknowledgment and ate with the others.
Adrian and the rest stayed until late before finally leaving. Anthony stayed with Daisy.
The babies didn’t fuss much. They were surprisingly easy.
Daisy woke up in the middle of the night.
Anthony was asleep, his head on the edge of her bed, still holding her hand.
“Mr. Vale.” Daisy moved her hand.
Anthony woke instantly.
His eyes were bloodshot. A faint stubble shadowed his jaw.
He looked thinner. The angles of his face were sharper.
“Why are you sleeping there?” Her voice was half scolding.
If she had to guess, Anthony had been right there the whole time. There was a perfectly good cot next to
her. He hadn’t used it.
Anthony didn’t answer her question. “Does it still hurt?”
“Yes.” Daisy frowned. “Every time I move.”
He brushed the hair from her forehead. “You did well.”
“Hold me.”

Daisy reached out. Anthony leaned down and put his arms around her.
She relaxed. There was something about his hug that made her feel safe.
They talked for a while, then Anthony had food sent over.

Daisy was starving. She ate a lot. The moment she finished, the two little ones started crying, like theyd timed it.
Anthony smiled and walked over.
He carefully placed them beside Daisy.
Daisy laughed, “Mr. Vale, you’re such a pro.”
He smiled but said nothing.
He’d been practicing at Damian’s place the past few days. He’d gotten pretty good at holding the baby.
The nanny suggested she try breastfeeding. Daisy couldn’t look at Anthony. Anthony made an excuse and stepped out.
He came back half an hour later.
The babies had tiny stomachs. They didn’t eat much before falling asleep.
When Anthony walked in, Daisy was fixing her clothes.
Neither of them said anything.
The nannies took the hint and wheeled the babies out to the living room, leaving the two of them alone.
Anthony hadn’t touched her during entire pregnancy. Sure, there had been kisses here and there, but there were places he hadn’t had a chance to really look at.
“You should get some sleep.” Daisy glanced at the cot.
Anthony tucked the blanket around her. “I can’t sleep alone.”
Daisy paused. He still needed someone to sleep with him. Shameless.
But the corner of her mouth curled up anyway.
“Come up here.” She tried to scoot over, wincing.
“Don’t move.” Anthony sat beside her. “This is fine.”
He wouldn’t get in. He was afraid of hurting her. Daisy didn’t push.
He sat by her side, watching her until she fell asleep, then rested his head on the edge of the bed.
