Chapter 690 The Birthday Party
He picked up a grape and started peeling.
Diana and Brian weren’t there. They’d gone on another trip.
Alaric and Aurora were the last to arrive. They came with their baby too.
“Aurora, over here!” Lynn shoved Lucas aside and pulled Aurora down next to her.

Ever since their misunderstanding had been cleared up, Aurora had been hanging out with them more often. Isabelle never brought up the past, and Aurora was grateful for that—at least she hadn’t been humiliated. Lynn and Daisy didn’t know the details anyway, so there was no awkwardness when they all got together.
Joseph had his staff bring up food. He didn’t come upstairs until he’d finished most of his work downstairs.
On his way up, he passed the private room where the birthday party was being set up. The decorations were almost done. The person in charge of the party had come to check on things. Standing next to him was a familiar face.
It was Lydia.
From inside the room, he heard Grace’s voice. “Mr. Logan Jackman, we followed the design we agreed on. It’s too late to change it now.”
The two other girls were already packing up. They’d finished, but the client wanted changes.
Logan Jackman was the man who’d been having dinner with Lydia last time–tall, stocky. Lydia had her arm linked through his.
“Forget it. It’s fine.” Lydia sounded disappointed.
She hadn’t liked the design when she saw it. Pink wasn’t her color. She’d only mentioned it in passing, but Logan had taken it seriously.
“Why settle? You should be happy.” Logan turned to Grace. “How much? Change it now. I don’t care what it costs.”
“Sir, it’s not about the money. These flowers were ordered in advance. We can’t get new ones on such short notice. There aren’t enough.” Grace looked helpless.
Lydia knew that. She didn’t want to make things difficult. She tugged Logan’s arm. “It’s fine. Pink is pretty too.”
She turned to Grace. “Thank you for your hard work. You can go. I’ll send the final payment later.”
“Thank you.” Grace gathered her scissors and leftover supplies and prepared to leave.
“Wait.” Logan still wasn’t happy. In his eagerness, he grabbed Grace’s arm.

Grace pulled away quickly and stepped back. She stepped on a piece of cardboard and slipped.
She reached for a table to steady herself–but a large hand caught her waist.
“Careful.”
Joseph’s voice came from above her.
Grace looked up at him, frozen.
Joseph saw she wasn’t saying anything and let go. “Go on.”
“Hey, Mr. Clark-” Logan started to say something. Lydia stopped him.
“It’s fine. Let it go.” Lydia recognized Joseph. He was Daisy’s brother.
Grace looked at Joseph. He gave her a look. She looked away and left.
“Mr. Jackman, isn’t it a bit much to bully a young girl?” Joseph’s face was cold.

Logan laughed, “I just want things to look nice. It’s my birthday, after all. Why are you sticking up for her?”
“I saw the design you approved. Ms. Barnes did nothing wrong. If you wanted to change it, you should have told us. You don’t get to do whatever you want in our private rooms.”
Joseph glanced at Lydia. She wouldn’t meet his eyes.
Anthony was standing at the door. His eyes met Lydia’s.
Lydia looked flustered. “Sorry for the trouble,” she said to Joseph.
Joseph didn’t respond. He turned and walked out. Anthony followed.
“I didn’t know it was her birthday,” Joseph said to Anthony. “If I had, I wouldn’t have taken the booking.”
Anthony smiled, “Why not? Just charge more next time.”
“Good point.”
They walked downstairs together.
“You want to move to the rooftop?” Joseph asked.
“I don’t mind. But Ivy might. And with all the kids, the rooftop isn’t convenient.”
“Fair enough.”
They dropped the idea.
Downstairs, Joseph spotted Grace at the bar. She was clearly waiting for him.
