“I’m not scared at all,” Henrietta said firmly as she sat beside Harvey to eat.

Harvey doted on Henrietta more than anyone else in the family. Whenever she ran into trouble, he always helped her sort things out calmly. He’d then share life advice with her, and she always listened to him willingly.

Harold was nothing like that. He only ever called her silly and told her to fight back whenever someone upset her.

He always leaned toward solving problems with brute force.

She’d barely finished insisting she wasn’t afraid of him when Harold walked up behind her and tapped the top of her head lightly. “Talking bad about me to Harvey again, huh?”

Henrietta covered her head and inched closer to Harvey’s side with a pout. “I wasn’t at all.”

Harvey simply smiled and said nothing.

Harold sat down right next to her and started eating his meal. “That boy who’s been following you around school all the time–is he still hanging around you?”

“Yeah, I still see him every now and then. I can’t shake him off, no matter what I do,” Henrietta admitted. Even though she was a little intimidated by Harold, she told him everything honestly. Deep down, she knew he was reliable when it mattered most.

“You’re just not turning him down clearly enough. That’s why he’s being so pushy and persistent. Next time, find an excuse to beat him straight away,” Harold advised bluntly.

Henrietta glanced over at Harvey helplessly, but Harvey kept quiet and didn’t take sides.

“Don’t go teaching Henrietta bad habits,” Damian cut in. He’d thought Harold had really changed for the better, yet in that moment, he seemed just as stubborn and reckless as he’d always been.

“Henrietta.” A young woman’s voice called out from beside them.

She was Henrietta’s teacher’s daughter, several years older than her. Her family ran an education institute, and their home was only a ten–minute drive from the Cross Villa. Henrietta often went over to hang out with her and sometimes asked her to tutor her with schoolwork.

Henrietta turned around and waved warmly. “Dolores! Over here.”

Dolores Buchanan walked over, and every man at the table–Louis, Damian, Harvey, and Harold–turned their eyes toward her.

She greeted each of them shyly. Her gaze lingered on Harvey last, and she guessed his identity at once.
