Harold spoke in a deep, magnetic yet icy tone that sent a chill down one’s spine. “What do you want to do
now?”
“I don’t want to marry him. I want to move my household registration away from the Bowman family Claudia replied, her voice breaking with quiet sobs.
She was still legally registered as a member of the Bowman family, with Edgar listed as the head of household. She would always be under his control unless she transferred it away.
Harold ground his teeth and nodded slowly. “You can’t apply for an independent household registration on your own. The only way to move it is to marry someone else.”
“Anyone but him…” Claudia’s voice trembled. Everyone knew she meant Darrell.
“Are you absolutely sure?”
“I’m sure.”
She had no other way out left. At this point, she would agree to anything just to break free from their
grasp.
Her fall down the stairs had twisted her ankle perfectly, letting her escape the wedding at the last minute. Still, she wasn’t truly safe yet.
She’d only dodged the wedding ceremony and bought herself a temporary reprieve.
Harold frowned deeply, his jaw clenched hard with frustration.
He said, “Give me two days. Rest well these next forty–eight hours, and I’ll handle everything else.”
Claudia nodded. “Alright.”
She couldn’t explain why she trusted him so easily.
But in that moment, Harold was the only person she could rely on.
More than a decade ago, the massive earthquake had buried her parents forever beneath the collapsed mall. Her older brother’s body was never even found.
She’d lived full–time at boarding school ever since, growing up with no one to look after her.
Edgar and Imogen had become her legal guardians in name only.
She’d never imagined they’d use her as a tool to make money.
She’d once thought they only used her ID to register a regular business license. Now she realized the situation had spiraled far beyond control.
Harold took the agarwood bracelet off his own wrist and slipped it gently onto Claudia’s

Claudia froze in surprise. His rough, calloused fingers brushed against her soft, delicate skin, sending a strange tingle through her entire body and making her cheeks heat up.
An odd flutter spread from her wrist all the way through her chest.
Claudia made no move to refuse. She nodded at him softly and whispered her thanks.
Harold walked out of the ward and closed the door carefully behind him.
A crowd of people immediately swarmed forward and blocked the hallway outside.
Three of Harold’s bodyguards stood firmly in front of the door, forming an unbreakable human barrier.
The group facing them was the very men who’d already been beaten and dared not fight back anymore.
Harold swept his sharp gaze over everyone present, as if seeing straight through each one of them.
His eyes were dark and piercing, and just standing there gave off an untouchable, imposing aura.
“Who are you?” Imogen shouted aggressively, thin and scrawny with no grace at all. “She’s our family. We have every right to look after her.”
“That’s right!” Edgar cut in, jabbing a finger straight at Harold. “Claudia isn’t a criminal. Why are you keeping her locked away?”
“She fell down such a tall staircase, and we can’t even go check if she’s alright.”
“The wedding was almost done. How could something like this happen right at the last minute?”
Harold stayed completely silent amid their noisy complaints.
Amid the crowd stood Darrell, dressed in his full groom’s suit, his eyes filled with obvious worry yet calm and composed all the same.
He stepped forward and held out a hand to Harold. “Hello. I’m Claudia’s husband, Darrell.”
Harold sneered.
Husband? Where does that title even come from?
They haven’t even signed any marriage papers.
The two men were nearly the same height–easily six feet tall, if not six foot two.
Harold carried a rugged, raw masculinity, his presence overpowering Darrell’s by a clear margin.
He paid Darrell no mind at all.
Harold lifted his eyes, a faint knowing smirk tugging at his lips as he shot Darrell a meaningful glance Then he turned and walked away without another word.

The crowd behind him burst into angry shouts and insults.
Darrell tried to follow after him to argue, only to be blocked by Harold’s bodyguards.

They dared not force their way through. The three men were clearly trained fighters, and any fight would only make the whole mess worse.
Back in the hospital bed, Claudia had no idea if Harold could fix all her troubles. She had no choice but to wait patiently.
In less than ten minutes, people came and went from the ward, bringing all sorts of daily necessities for her.
Harold even arranged for a maid to stay and look after her.
Darrell studied the new arrivals closely, then pulled out his phone and stepped aside to make a call.
