A shrill scream suddenly erupted from outside the ward door.

Imogen stared at her phone, watching flames engulf Bowman Villa on the screen, and nearly collapsed from shock.

Darrell frowned sharply as he glanced at Imogen’s hysterical outburst, looking utterly disgusted by her behavior.

He checked his own phone, saw no new updates, then went back to sitting quietly on a chair by the door to

wait.

Edgar panicked completely. He turned to Jaden, who was glued to his mobile game, and told him to keep watch outside the ward.

Jaden nodded irritably and mumbled a few vague replies.

Edgar and Imogen then hurried away from the hallway.

An hour passed, and Claudia’s stomach rumbled loudly with hunger.

The nurse tending to her IV smiled softly and said nothing.

Claudia smiled back awkwardly.

Two more hours went by before Lowell walked in carrying takeout food.

You must be starving by now. Time to eat,Lowell said gently.

Claudia roused herself from her drowsy sleep and looked up to see his gentle, refined face.

Lowell set up the overbed table beside the hospital bed and laid out the meal.

Her throat felt parched and empty from hunger. She sat up slowly, took the fork he handed her, and began eating without bothering to keep up any delicate manners.

Lowell sat on the sofa nearby and watched her quietly.

She was small and slender, carrying a soft yet resilient strength in her frame.

Lowell spoke up. Did you twist your ankle on purpose?

Claudia nodded slightly, keeping her head down as she focused on her food.

He said, You did a pretty clever job of it. No broken bones at alljust a mild sprain.”

Claudia shot him a sideways glance.

Does he actually want me to hurt myself even more?

Twelve hours slipped by, and the clock struck six the next morning.

Claudia drifted in a halfasleep haze, her whole body aching all over.

She’d barely felt any pain except her immobile ankle right after the fall.

Now every muscle and joint in her body throbbed with soreness.

Claudia checked her phone. There were no calls or messages from Harold.

She didn’t dare call him first. This mess was already complicated enough, and she didn’t want to add more trouble to his plate.

Claudia had no choice but to wait patiently.

The bodyguards still stood rigidly outside the ward.

Most of the crowd that’d gathered the day before had left, leaving only a handful of people lingering around.

Darrell had stayed posted by the door the entire time without leaving once. He hadn’t even changed his clothes, still wearing the groom’s badge pinned to his chest.

His two assistants urged him to go rest, but he remained unnervingly calm and refused to budge.

Jaden lay curled up in a hallway chair, still fast asleep.

Lowell brought her pumpkin soup for breakfast that morning.

Claudia finished every last sip. She knew a tough battle was still ahead of her.

Lowell glanced toward Darrell, standing outside the door with a detached expression.

He said, That groomtobe of yours wants to talk to you.

I don’t want to see him,Claudia replied flatly.

She tucked her hair behind her ear and stared out the window at the steady pouring rain.

Darrell was the man she’d had a crush on for three whole years.

But after everything she’d been through, she trusted no one anymore.

She’d heard nothing from Harold the entire day, and the uncertainty left her restless and unable to eat or sleep properly.

Time dragged on until eight o’clock the next morning.

Lowell had several surgeries scheduled and left right after dropping off breakfast.

While Darrell was in the restroom, a nurse wheeled a wheelchair in to take her for an Xray,

Claudia refused immediately.

Harold had told her never to leave the ward for any reason unless Lowell was there in person.`

Lowell hadn’t mentioned any scheduled checkup that day, and the maid had also stepped out to buy fruit.

Claudia grew instantly alert and was about to call out for the bodyguards outside.

She never got the chance, though.

The nurse pressed a damp cloth soaked with a sleeping drug over her mouth and nose without warning

Claudia struggled with all her strength.

She didn’t want to die or to marry Darrell, and she refused to take the blame for crimes she never committed.

Her resistance faded fast. Her limbs went limp, and she slipped into a dazed unconscious state on the bed.

The fake nurse lifted her into the wheelchair and pulled a baseball cap down over her head.

Then she held her close, positioning her to look like she was sitting upright naturally.

The bodyguards at the door noticed nothing out of the ordinary. They didn’t stop them and followed closely behind as they moved down the hallway.

As they rounded the elevator corner, five more men in black rushed out from the emergency stairwell.

It took barely half a minute for them to drag the two bodyguards into the stairwell.
