Chapter 723 He Could Even Smile
Harold looked down at her, and their eyes locked straight onto each other.
“Thank you,” Claudia said softly.
Harold stayed silent.
If it weren’t for Claudia, I would’ve died a long time ago.
She’s the one who pulled me back from the brink of death.
And today, she’s once again saving me from trouble.
The two climbed into the back seat of the car.
The driver was a middle–aged man with a scar across his face, Roger Harrington.

Howard sat in the front passenger seat and said, “Harvey’s back. Your father called and wants you to head over to the home in a few days.”
Harold frowned slightly. “Alright.”
The car pulled through the gates of Serene Manor.
As soon as Claudia stepped out, she spotted a familiar figure in the distance.
Panicked, she instantly reached out and grabbed Harold’s hand, stepping closer to his side.
Harold froze for a second and turned to glance at her.
Her hands were ice cold, and she was even trembling slightly.
Claudia felt the warmth of his large palm seep into her skin, and she quickly pulled her hand away out of reflex.
She lifted her eyes and met his unfathomable gaze. “I’m so sorry.”
Harold’s heart stirred unexpectedly, a wave of heat rising in his chest.

He could run six miles without breaking a sweat, yet now his chest rose and fell unevenly.
He’d never known his heart could race this fast–not until the moment she’d grabbed his hand.
Claudia’s gaze fixed on the people not far away–Darrell stood there with his mother, Melissa Brady, surrounded by a group of others.
She paused in her steps, hesitating to move forward.
Deep down, she was terrified they would drag her back with them.

She was legally married now, but the fear inside her wouldn’t fade away.
Claudia edged over to stand beside Harold, as if only being near him could make her feel safe.
Harold turned his head and asked quietly, “Do you have feelings for him?”
Claudia nodded first, then quickly shook her head.
A faint smile tugged at Harold’s lips.

This girl is soft in every way–except for her sharp tongue. I felt it the last time I held her close; even her bones seemed gentle and fragile.
I’ve never understood how a woman could be this delicate and soft.
Claudia stared at him in surprise.
I didn’t know he could even smile.
I always thought he had a permanently blank, unreadable expression.
Still… he looks really good when he smiles.
She was about to linger a little longer on his face when Harold’s expression darkened all at once.
“Has he ever treated you badly?” Harold asked.
Claudia shook her head again.
“Let’s go,” Harold said.
He shot a subtle glance toward the distance, slipped both hands into his pockets, and walked straight into Serene Manor.
Claudia swallowed hard.
I can’t run from this forever. I have to face it sooner or later.
She hurried along beside him, struggling to keep up with his long strides and growing breathless.
How can his legs be so long? Why does he walk so fast?
She finally stopped, placing one hand on her waist to catch her breath, her pace slowing down completely.
Claudia hadn’t eaten all day, and her body felt weak and unsteady, her legs going limp with exhaustion.
When Harold turned around, Claudia had fallen several feet behind him.
The two bodyguards standing beside her pressed their lips together, holding back laughter.
Howard turned his head aside, not daring to meet Harold’s eyes.

Harold frowned and stood rooted to the spot, waiting for her to catch up.
Claudia didn’t dare delay any longer and hurried toward him.
The moment she started walking again, Harold slowed his pace on purpose.
She finally had a chance to catch her breath.
By the time Darrell noticed Claudia, the pair had already walked into the main hall.
“Claudia,” Darrell called out, stopping her in her tracks.
Claudia froze. No matter how fast she walked, he still caught sight of her.
Harold halted his steps and turned halfway around.
He said, “You can walk right past him if you don’t want to talk.”

Claudia looked up at the man beside her. She knew how powerful he was–and that he could easily make this go away for her.
But she wanted Darrell to give up for good. Otherwise, he’d just keep pestering her again and again later
“Can you wait for me for two minutes?” Claudia asked.
Harold replied simply, “I can.”
With that, Harold shot Howard a subtle look, and Howard turned and walked toward the side courtyard.
His eyes turned dark and sharp as he glanced coldly at Darrell, then he walked over to sit down on a nearby sofa.
