Chapter 762 The Charity Auction
Until now, Claudia had been completely unaware of this side of the business.
Fortunately, she was quick on her feet–otherwise, she never could have managed it all.

“Ms. Bowman, it looks like the student has outdone the teacher. Maybe it really is time for me to step back,” Shawn said with a chuckle.
Claudia pressed her lips together lightly. “You’re kidding, Shawn.”
She knew he was ready to move on, and she didn’t try to talk him out of it–even though, truth be told, she was pretty anxious about it herself.
That evening, she grabbed a quick bite in the staff cafeteria before heading over to check on the venue.
As she walked toward the main building, Nora handed her a tablet. “Ms. Bowman, here’s the file on Stella Campbell.”
Claudia glanced through it and had the details down in no time.
Tonight also meant another task: making contact with Stella herself.
Ordinarily, this would have been Darren’s responsibility, and Claudia didn’t feel at all confident stepping into that role.
Handling security and setup from behind the scenes was one thing, but actually having to connect with Stella personally? That was her worst nightmare.
Talking to people had never been her strong suit.
With a quiet sigh, she handed the tablet back to Nora.
It was the first time Nora had seen her look so stressed. Even when faced with stacks of documents two feet tall, Claudia had never once frowned while working through them.
Claudia made her rounds backstage–checking the equipment, testing the sound system–then moved to the main floor to inspect the bar setup, the table arrangements, the lighting….
This was her first time running a project at the Southhall Compound completely on her own, and it showed. She seemed a little flustered, unsure where to position herself.
But at least everything was ready.
By 7:30 PM, invited guests began flowing into the various halls and lounges.
The main building was hosting Skyline Technology’s product launch. The side rooms held cocktail receptions and informal dinners.
The smaller banquets had dedicated teams handling them, so the process there was fairly straightforward. The main event, however, was the formal one.

Chapter 762 The Charity Auction
From her spot backstage, Claudia spotted Randall almost immediately.
He was still wearing the same suit he’d had on earlier that day.
Before heading onstage, Randall noticed Claudia as well.
She kept her expression neutral.

Randall didn’t think much of it–he’d already seen Harold around the venue earlier. Claudia was probably here as Harold’s plus–one for the evening.
With the event running smoothly, Claudia finally let herself relax a little. She slipped our toward the third courtyard and nearly bumped into Chelsea.
“I thought you weren’t coming!” Chelsea grabbed her hand and pulled her aside behind a pillar.
In Chelsea’s mind, Claudia was definitely there as Harold’s date.
“What are you doing here?” Claudia asked.
“Ugh, don’t even ask. I didn’t want to come, but my brother made me. So annoying.”
“When did your brother get back?” Claudia had met him once before.
“Just last week.”
They chatted for a few minutes before Claudia noticed Harold not far away, swirling a glass of red wine.
He was leaning against one of the pillars along the corridor, his eyes fixed on her.
Both Claudia and Chelsea froze for a second.
“Is that dress you’re wearing…?” Chelsea began in a low voice, then cut herself off.
“No–don’t even go there,” Claudia mumbled, her cheeks flushing slightly.
Harold smiled, clearly amused by their exchange.
He assumed Claudia had arrived with Chelsea.
“I’m gonna make myself scarce,” Chelsea whispered before slipping away quietly.
Claudia couldn’t stop her.
Left alone, she had no choice but to go over and greet Harold.
She really wished she’d just stayed backstage the whole time.
“Mr. Cross.”
“Yeah.” Harold finished his wine and placed the glass on a passing server’s tray.

“You’re not… drinking too much, are you?” she asked carefully.
“No.” He couldn’t afford to overdo it–not when he had plans with her later.
