Chapter 768 The Marks
Claudia’s mind went completely blank for a second. She just stood there, frozen.

So, his wedding to Loretta had been scheduled for November. The invitations were already printed–they just hadn’t been mailed out yet.
Harold watched her shocked expression, wondering if he’d said too much.
The day Claudia received that text, Harold got one too.
At first, he figured it might be some kind of sick joke. But not many people knew about Claudia’s connection to the Cross family, so the message probably had some truth to it.
When he rushed over to the townhouse that day, he’d wanted to take her away right then. But he held back -worried she’d think he was some kind of stalker and refuse to go.
It wasn’t like him to hesitate. He usually made decisions quickly, but with Claudia, he’d learned to slow down and wait.
The dates for his and Loretta’s engagement photos were around that same time. But by the time he tried reaching Harvey, Claudia had already been taken by the Bowmans.
He missed the photo session, which was why Loretta ended up going to Moonhaven Villa to confront Claudia.
Honestly, he hadn’t explained much to Claudia about him and Loretta. There never seemed to be a right time.
Now, though, his and Claudia’s names were on the same marriage license. It was time to start planning a real wedding.
Damian and Louis had advised him not to rush her. “Take it slow,” they said. “Explain things clearly, and only bring her home if she agrees. If not, respect her choice.”
Claudia already knew November was supposed to be Harold and Loretta’s wedding month–Lowell had
told her.
“Harold,” Claudia looked up, her cheeks still flushed from the wine. “I’m the only one left in my family.”
Her eyes grew watery.
Harold wanted to pull her into his arms, but he was afraid she’d push him away again.
“You’re not alone,” he said softly. “You have me. And we have plenty of family. If you say yes, I’ll handle everything on your side. All you have to do is show up as the bride.”
Claudia didn’t answer. Instead, she stepped closer, wrapped her arms around him, and rested her cheek against his chest. She could feel his steady heartbeat gradually speed up.
Harold stayed still, letting her hold him. After a moment, he felt his shirt grow damp.

Chapter 768 The Marks
When Roger returned with dessert, he noticed a familiar car parked down the street–Harvey’s.
Harvey was sitting inside, his gaze fixed on Harold and Claudia standing not far away.
Claudia said something to Harold, then walked over and hugged him.
Roger thought about going over to say hello, but before he could, Harvey drove off.

Harvey had been in the area earlier dropping Henrietta off at school. After finishing up some paperwork he’d had dinner with a supplier and decided to swing by to pick up dessert for Isabelle. Running into them here was the last thing he expected.
By the time Roger got back to the car, Claudia was already asleep with her head in Harold’s lap.
That half–glass of wine had made her drowsy to begin with. In the warmth of the car, she could barely keep her eyes open. If Harold hadn’t been there, she probably would’ve passed out much earlier.
When she hugged him earlier, Harold had been too stunned to move at first. Then, carefully, he’d wrapped his arms around her.
Claudia ended up falling asleep right there in his embrace, drunk and exhausted. In the end, Harold had to carry her to the car.
Now, looking down at her sleeping in his lap, Harold let out a quiet sigh and gently wiped the tear tracks from the corners of her eyes.
He’d never seen anyone get so drunk from just one glass of wine. Until now.
Around noon the next day, Claudia pressed a hand to her throbbing temple. Sunlight streamed through the floor–to–ceiling windows, forcing her eyes open.
“You’re awake,” came Harold’s lazy voice from above her.
Claudia startled and looked up.
Oh, god.
She must be seeing things. Why was Harold in her bed?
“If you don’t move soon, my arm’s going numb,” he said, and she could’ve sworn there was a hint of amusement in his complaint.
She scrambled up and shifted away.
“I…” Claudia clutched the blanket, too embarrassed to look at him.
Harold sat up as well, his back to her as he perched on the edge of the bed. He glanced over his shoulder. “You were pretty out of it last night. You kept begging me to stay with you.”
Claudia didn’t believe him. When she was drunk, she usually just passed out–she wouldn’t have said something like that.
