Both Harold and Claudia had received messages from this mysterious contact before. Those tips had once helped Claudia get out of a dangerous situation safely. On the day they signed their marriage license. Harold had even gotten a congratulatory text from the same number.
This time, the message was for Harold alone.
Whoever it was seemed to know them both. But Harold and Claudia hardly shared any close mutual friends, making it almost impossible to guess who could be behind it.
When Harold reached the deck, two members of the cleaning crew were just finishing up and heading our
The sender hadn’t shown up yet.
He stood by the railing, scanning the yacht carefully–both the upper and lower levels.
Nothing seemed out of place. But a short distance away, across a few decks on the same side of the ship, a small crowd had gathered near the rail, all looking down toward the water.
“Another person went over…”
“What’s going on tonight? That’s the second one…”
Harold glanced over just as a man in a light blue suit took off his jacket, tossed it aside, climbed over the railing, and jumped into the dark water below.
Harold recognized him. He’d bumped into the guy earlier that day during boarding.
Light blue suit, black shirt.
Wait–the man’s build and the way he moved matched the figure from the security footage earlier.
He was the one who had pushed Loretta into the water.
Instinctively, Harold looked down toward the spot where the man had jumped.
By then, the crew had already trained spotlights on the area.
The person struggling in the water was Claudia.
The man in the light blue suit was swimming straight toward her. Within moments, he reached her and began pulling her toward the boat.
Chaos erupted on the yacht.
Claudia was rushed to the hospital.

murmured the word “brother” in her sleep. She’d been mumbling like that for hours.
At one point, his eyes drifted to the light blue suit jacket draped over the sofa in the room. His mind kept turning over the possibilities.
Around noon, Howard arrived with lunch. Claudia was still unconscious.
Harold looked at him expectantly.
Howard began his update. “The police have wrapped things up. It was Loretta’s brother. Mr. Harvey Cross is already on his way back. All the projects assigned to the Flood family have been halted, and their funding’s been pulled.”
“Make sure they’re properly taken care of,” Harold said, his tone cool. The phrase “taken care of” carried a sharp, icy edge.
“Harold…” Claudia’s murmuring shifted. She was saying his name now, soft and drowsy.
Harold turned back to her, his gaze softening. “I’m right here.”
Howard had the food set down, then quietly ushered everyone out of the room.
When Claudia finally woke up, Harvey was the only one there with her.
Dolores was asleep on the sofa, Harvey’s jacket draped over her.
Their suitcases sat nearby on the floor.
“Harvey…”
Claudia pushed herself up slowly, every part of her body aching. Her voice came out rough, and as soon as she spoke, a fit of coughing took over.
Harvey quickly poured a glass of warm water and handed it to her.
Claudia took it and drank gratefully.
When she’d fallen into the ocean, she’d swallowed quite a bit of seawater. Now her throat felt dry and sore.
The impact with the water had left her feeling like her whole body was about to fall apart.
Harvey noticed her cheeks were flushed. He reached over and gently pressed the back of his hand to her forehead.
The touch made Claudia freeze for a second.
Harvey withdrew his hand, pressed the nurse call button, and asked for a doctor.
Before Claudia could fully process what was happening, he’d already taken care of it.
“Does anything else hurt?” he asked.

“Everything,” she admitted, clearing her throat. Her voice was starting to sound normal again.
Harvey gave a short nod and didn’t say anything else.
In less than two minutes, Harold walked in with the doctor.
Harvey moved aside to give them space. The sound of people entering woke Dolores.
She blinked awake, realizing Harvey’s jacket was still over her.
Harvey walked over to the sofa and looked down at her.
Flustered, she stood up quickly, holding out the jacket to return it.
“Sit. Get a little more rest if you need it,” Harvey said quietly.
