Harvey set his glass down. He never considered himself a hothead, and after letting Dolores have it earlier, he realized the anger was already gone.

Even the things she’d said the previous night didn’t seem so out of line to him anymore.

“I haven’t figured that part out yet. But keep it to yourself, okay? I’ve got a reputation. And you’re engaged -young women should watch what they say.” Harvey felt he was starting to sound like a broken record

Actually, now he sounded just like an older brother scolding his little sister.

A smile touched Dolores‘ lips.

That was exactly the tone Harvey used with Henrietta.

He was definitely over it.

“Got it,” Dolores said. Then she pulled a small tube of cream from her pocket. “It’s for bug bites. Takes the swelling right down. Want me to do it, or you got it?”

Harvey glanced at the tube in her hand and took it.

“I’ll handle it. Go keep an eye on Zander. Quit following me around.” He felt like the last couple of days had been one thing after another.

Dolores straightened up. “Yes, boss!”

She walked out, a bright smile on her face.

Harvey watched her leave, bouncing the small tube in his palm once before a faint grin appeared on his own face. Then he caught himself and wiped it away. He wasn’t even sure what he was smiling about.

He headed into the bathroom, studied the two red bites on his neck in the mirror, then squeezed a dab of the cream onto his fingers and applied it.

It was time to head to event.

Zander had already left with Nora.

Claudia came looking for Harvey. The door to his suite was open, and Dolores was lingering just outside in the hallway.

“What are you doing out here?” Claudia asked.

Dolores leaned in, lowering her voice. “Laying low. I think I’ve pushed my luck too much lately. Even dropping Henrietta’s name isn’t working anymore.”

Claudia smiled softly. She’d just learned from Howard about Dolores‘ connection to Henrietta.

Dolores peeked back toward the living room. Harvey wasn’t in sight yet, so she kept talking. “Earlier, when I said he was barely dressed… it wasn’t like that. Howard was there too, he can back me up. Harvey just didn’t have a shirt on. I only said it because I didn’t want him docking my pay again.”

“How can you joke about things like that with your boss?” Claudia wondered aloud. Weren’t employees, usually intimidated by their superiors? But Dolores seemed to trade barbs with Harvey all the time.

Dolores also felt she’d crossed a line earlier. Harvey had been mad. She joked around with him sometimes and he usually let it slide.

But after last night–having to crash in a motel–he was probably holding a grudge.

“What do I do? I really ticked him off,” she said, her lips pursed in a pout. “He already docked my pay last month, and I ended up owing him. I can’t afford another hit.”

Claudia wasn’t sure what advice to give.

The two of them waited together by the door.

Then, after a moment of silence, Claudia asked, “Does your boss… have someone he likes? Romantically, I mean.”

“I don’t think so. I’ve never seen him treat anyone special.” Dolores looked at her curiously. “Why? You thinking of setting him up?”

Claudia shook her head.

She’d had that incredibly vivid dream last night and wanted to know if she was somehow holding Harvey back in reality.

But even if she found out, what then? Knowing would probably just make her overthink everything more.

She and Harold had already sent out the wedding invitations. The date was barely a month away.

Dolores continued, “The women he spends the most time with are Henrietta, Isabelle, and… well, me. Is there any woman around him I wouldn’t know about?”

Claudia met her gaze. A sudden thought flickered through her mind, but she didn’t dare voice it aloud.

Just then, Harvey emerged and saw the two of them whispering by the doorway.

“You two still gossiping about me?” He shot a look at Dolores.

Dolores flashed him a wide, innocent grin. “Who, me? I was just telling Claudia how you’re in great shape, handsome, and loaded.”

Claudia had never heard anyone lay it on that thick before. Now she’d seen it firsthand.

Harvey decided further communication was pointless. He stepped past Dolores and said to Claudia, “Let’s

The three of them presented their invitations at the entrance. As they stepped inside, they ran into Darren, who had come down ahead of them. He’d been waiting for their arrival.

“Harvey.” A voice came from the side. Spencer walked over. His eyes flickered with curiosity when he noticed Claudia beside Harvey. Claudia. Good to see you.”

Why were the two of them arriving together?
