Chapter 889 Climbing the Balcony
When Harold arrived, the sound of laughter and chatter spilled from the upstairs room where the bridesmaids were gathered.
Harvey and Sebastian had been drafted as groomsmen. All three stepped out of the car together, dressed in matching black suits.
As Harold got out, he was reminded of the last time he’d come to pick up Claudia. Back then, she’d been as nervous as a startled bird-the moment she laid eyes on him, she looked like she’d spotted a wolf.
This time, he was here in a formal suit to bring her to the wedding.
Just before heading inside, his gaze landed on a small sign placed beside the wedding welcome board at the entrance.
“If you’re still out there, please come find me.”
The words stood out starkly. It wasn’t decorated or styled like the rest of the wedding signage -clearly not something Harold or the wedding party had put up.
Harvey noticed it too. They exchanged a look, both understanding without saying it aloud.
That message wasn’t meant for them. It was for Hector.
Harold felt a pang in his chest. Here was Claudia, getting married without a single family member beside her.
Upstairs, Chelsea peeked out the window and saw them crossing the courtyard toward the building.
“They’re here! Quick-block the door!” she called out, darting back into the room.
Inside, Claudia’s grip tightened around her delicate hand fan. Her palms felt slightly damp.
Zander, standing close beside her, showed little expression but held quietly onto the hem of her wedding gown.
The groom’s party made their way upstairs swiftly.
Harvey was handed a megaphone at some point, and now everyone around him was encouraging him to say something.
Sebastian shot him a glance. When Harvey tried to pass him the megaphone, Sebastian pretended not to notice.
Whoever thought it was a good idea to assign two relatively reserved guys as groomsmen really hadn’t thought it through.
Clearing his throat awkwardly, Harvey raised the megaphone and spoke stiffly into it.
“Everyone inside… please lay down your weapons and do not attempt to resist…”
Laughter erupted both inside the room and out in the hallway.
Even Claudia couldn’t hold back a smile.
“Wait, that’s weird… Where’s Harold?” Chelsea murmured, checking the video feed on her phone.
She was on a live video call with Henrietta, who was with the groom’s party downstairs, but Harold was nowhere in sight.
Aside from Harvey and Sebastian, the crowd outside the door consisted mostly of their friends.
Claudia paused, her smile fading.
Harold wasn’t there?
Everyone was so focused on the standoff at the door that no one noticed Claudia’s growing unease.
Sebastian and Harvey slipped a few envelopes with gift cards under the door as part of the “entrance bargain.”
Chelsea stayed glued to Henrietta’s video feed.
She truly couldn’t spot Harold anywhere.
It seemed only Harvey and the others had come upstairs.
But they’d all seen Harold enter the building with them just minutes ago.
A flicker of worry passed through Claudia-was everything okay?
Just then, a soft thud came from the direction of the balcony.
