Chapter 908 Visiting Darrell
Darrell had assumed the man-came to gloat over his victory, but he hadn’t expected this kind of conversation.
“You know, Claudy’s just too sweet. A newlywed guy like-me…” Harold chuckled and shook his fieart, looking more than please with himself.
“That’s pretty low,” Darrell shot back, giving him a disgusted look at the smug expression
“Can’t say that. Actually, I should thank you. If it weren’t for all those side flings you had going on, I might never have made my move on her.”
Darrell turned his gaze away calmly.”
Harold straightened up, folded his hands on the table, and studied him seriously. “Tell me-after what you did to my brother, d you really think Claudy won’t be hurt by it?”
Darrell’s fingers tightened almost imperceptibly, and his eyes darkened.
“You were so good to Claudy. Even after marrying me, she still remembers how kind you were, never says a bad word about you Honestly, if she’d wanted a divorce back then to choose you instead, I would’ve agreed. You’re a decent guy-aside from the wh womanizing thing, of course. But what I don’t get is… why couldn’t you just let it go? Why come after my family?”
Harold’s tone grew heavier, his brow slowly furrowing. “I really didn’t want to come after you. But my brother’s still lying in that hospital bed, and Claudy… she’s been by his side day in and day out.”
Claudia had always been a kind person.
Darrell’s hands clenched.
“Before I came here, Claudy asked me what would happen to you.” Harold paused, taking a slow breath. “She believes that no matter how much of a player you were, you wouldn’t do something like this.”
Darrell drew in a deep, controlled breath.
Harold didn’t press further. He stood and walked out, the heavy metal dooiding shut behind him with a low clang.
Back in his car, Harold called Claudia.
“You awake yet?”
On the other end, her voice still carried the soft haze of sleep. “Not really… Where’d you go?”
“Went to pick up your favorite breakfast. I’ll be home soon.”
Claudia smiled softly. Just then, Zander stirred at the sound of his voice, blinking sleepily before crawling over to her and peering at the phone screen.
“Is that Daddy?”
“Yeah, it’s Daddy,” Claudia replied, smoothing his tousled hair. “Want to get up? Daddy’s bringing us something good to eat.”
“Yeah!” Zander pushed himself up.
Claudia kept the call on as Harold watched through the screen, a fond smile touching his lips as the two shuffled into the bath and stood side by side in front of the mirror, brushing their teeth.
“Mom, where’s Uncle? He promised he’d take me fishing,” Zander mumbled around his toothbrush.
Claudia’s smile wavered slightly. “Uncle had some things to take care of at work. He’ll be back soon.”
On the other end of the line, Harold’s expression flattened
