He never mentioned when he'd be back.
Dolores didn't feel she could ask, either.
But Harvey must've had a reason for telling her to wait at home—so she stayed put and waited.
By the eighth day, she'd had enough.
She'd been texting Harvey late into the night before—she couldn't even remember what they'd talked about, only that it went on forever. She never actually said goodnight; she'd just fallen asleep with her phone still glowing beside her.
She slept until almost ten, only to be woken by noise coming from downstairs.
Dolores didn't feel like getting up, but something about the commotion felt off.
So she tugged on her favorite onesie—the green dinosaur pajamas with a dragging tail—and shuffled downstairs in her oversized claw slippers.
Rubbing her sleepy eyes, she stopped in her tracks.
Two neat rows of men in dark suits stood in the yard, each holding something carefully in their hands. Bodyguards, it looked like.
And right there in the living room stood Roger, holding a bouquet of flowers.
Dolores blinked. "Roger? What are you doing here?"
Roger froze for a second before recognizing her—Dolores, in that ridiculous dinosaur outfit, her hair messy and her feet swallowed by fluffy claws.
"Ms. Buchanan, you're... just coming down like this?"
Without even brushing her hair or changing?
Dolores didn't care. She walked past him to the kitchen island, poured a glass of water, and took a sip. "Seriously, what's going on?"
"I'm here regarding a marriage proposal," Roger replied blankly.
Dolores almost choked on her water. She laughed. "There's only one woman in this house. Are you proposing to me?"
"No—!" Roger flustered.
"No? Then my mom?"
Now she was really amused. "Mr. Harrington, you're married. My mom's married too. And my dad's home, by the way. Isn't this a little much? Even if you managed to hand off those flowers, I'm not sure you'd make it back out the front door."
Roger wasn't much of a talker, and Dolores' rapid-fire words left him spinning. He just stood there, bouquet in hand, completely lost.
Just then, Harvey walked in—holding a small red velvet box.
Behind him came Damian and what seemed like the entire family.
Dolores, still facing away, was finishing her water. With all the noise outside, she hadn't noticed a thing.
"Dora!" Zander's little voice rang out.
She turned—and there was Harvey, standing right in front of her, now holding the same bouquet Roger had brought.
For a moment, she just stood there, completely mortified.
Had Harvey even slept last night?
They'd texted until she couldn't keep her eyes open... and now here he was, and she'd only just woken up.
"You..."
Her dinosaur hood was still up on her head. And Harvey's whole family had just filed into the house.
Harvey smiled softly. "I'm here to propose."
Amanda and Quentin, who'd hurried in from the backyard, moved quickly to greet everyone.
Dolores could only offer a pained, embarrassed smile.
Of course he didn't show up when she was fully made up and ready.
He came when she was wearing head-to-toe dinosaur fleece.
