Chapter 928 Late Night Texts
Jane looked surprised. “Well, look at that-seems like we all know each other already!”
Sebastian stood beside Chelsea and took her hand openly. “Hey, Harvey-what’s the deal? You get engaged and suddenly nobody else is allowed to have a love life?”
Harvey shrugged lightly. “Wouldn’t dream of it.”
Dolores lingered to the side, pressing her lips together without saying a word.
After what had just happened, she felt too embarrassed to even show her face.
Chelsea ended up tugging Sebastian out of the room first.
Only then did Dolores let out a quiet breath of relief. She sank into the sofa and quietly watched Harvey chat with Jane until Jane finally headed upstairs.
A faint smile touched the corner of Harvey’s mouth as he walked over and settled beside her.
Dolores kept her hands on her knees, lips still pressed tight. “Are you… close with Jane?” she asked softly.
Harvey leaned back into the cushions, wrapped an arm around her shoulder, and drew her gently into his space.
He could tell she’d gotten the wrong idea back at the countryside retreat, so he explained, “Jane’s a jewelry designer-you probably know more about that world than I do.”
She had heard something about that before.
“Her family’s been pushing her to settle down,” he went on. “We went on one blind date, but it was really just to get her folks off her back. She even asked me to take a few photos with her out in the countryside to post online.”
“Oh.” A small, relieved laugh escaped her before she could stop it.
So that was all it was.
Harvey gently pinched her cheek-he’d known she might get jealous.
“Honestly, part of me wanted to see if you’d even care.”
Dolores smiled to herself. “Harvey, you’re pretty sneaky.”
“Sneaky?” He raised a brow, not loving the word. “I’d call it strategy. Otherwise how do you think I won over Diana?”
“Fox…” she murmured under her breath.
Harvey looked at her shy, slightly flushed face and felt that familiar pull-he could hardly wait to make her his wife.
Just then, Jane returned carrying a velvet-lined case.
She set it carefully on the coffee table, opened it with a soft click, and slid it toward Dolores.
“Harvey placed this order a while ago,” Jane said. “I barely finished in time. Take a look-I’ve got some things to take care of, so I’ll leave you to it.” With a polite smile, she excused herself.
Dolores’ lips parted slightly in surprise.
