Milka’s smile lit up the whole room. “Come on, I know his quirks better than anyone. So, what’s for lunch? I’m buying.”
Mia grinned, “Already reserved us a spot. This one’s on me—next time, it’s your turn.”
Milka didn’t argue. “Sounds good to me.”
Nobody even tried to fight over the bill. That was just how it went—one person picked it up this round, someone else would do it next. But everyone quietly agreed: no way would they let Anya, the youngest, pay.
Later at home, Anya flopped onto the couch and told her boyfriend, “Chad, do you think I’m just here for the free food?”
Leo barely looked up from his laptop, but he smirked. “Definitely.”
Just as the group was about to walk into the restaurant, Milka’s phone buzzed. She answered, her face softening. “Hey, what’s up?”
Mars’s voice came through the line. “Your dad caved yet?”
“I’m out grabbing lunch. Brought our usual lunch buddy, and she brought two more—Anya and Mia.”
Mars chuckled. “Nice. That little lunch buddy’s basically my stand-in, keeping an eye on you. I owe Anya a proper dinner for that.”
Milka glanced at sweet, innocent Anya and felt a sudden wave of big-sister pride. “What’s my dad doing right now?”
Mars peeked upstairs. “Oh, he thinks he’s sly—sent someone to check if my aunt really started a new life abroad. Stubborn as ever.”
“He actually sent someone?”
Mars laughed. “You know your dad—‘Hawk King’ of the squad. Nothing gets past him. Or me.”
They traded a few more words before hanging up.
Back at the table, Mia raised an eyebrow. “Mars again?”
“Yeah, he’ll be back with the team soon. My parents are still at it—he sets the trap, Dad walks right in,” Milka said, her mood clearly lifted.
Mia nudged, “Any progress? Has your dad finally given in?”
“You wouldn’t dare!” Jupiter snapped.
Mars grinned. “Why not? It’s not like I’d be doing anything wrong.”
Jupiter just stared, fuming.
Mars leaned in, not letting up. “Uncle, is it really so hard to swallow your pride and apologize to my aunt? You had someone check out that guy, but he’s just a decoy. I know you get it.
But hey, I’ll be honest—keep this up, and I’ll introduce my aunt to someone new before you know it. You know I can.”
Jupiter wasn’t easy to fool. Mars always knew how to push his buttons.
When Jupiter heard rumors about his ex-wife and some guy, he sent someone to dig for dirt—immediately.
Mars got wind of it right away, so he knew Jupiter was onto the truth. That’s why he could press his luck so boldly.
“Pretty cheap move, even for you,” Jupiter grumbled.
