Sweet Mischief’s Rollercoaster Romance novel Chapter 1770

Mars: "Just admit it—did you get played?"

"No."

Mars: "Then who sent someone to dig into Parker? From the second you made a move, you walked right into a trap. That’s how you lost this round."

Jupiter’s face turned red with frustration.

"Uncle, the only reason I went looking for Parker was to push you into seeing your own issues, to give you an easy way out—just pick up the phone and call Aunt. But no, you’d rather be stubborn. You’ve got time to order an investigation, but not enough to call her? Honestly, it seems like you don’t even want to make up with her."

Jupiter said nothing.

At the restaurant.

Four women clustered around a table, sharing dinner. Annie scrolled through the photos in the group chat, feeling a little envious since she hadn’t been able to join them.

"Where’s Lizzy?"

"Who knows where Conner’s dragged her off to this time."

Mia, who loved scrolling through her husband’s phone, remembered the photo of Lizzy in the chat. "Annie, what happened to Lizzy’s forehead? Was that a bruise?"

Annie’s mood soured at the question. "During the Ghost Festival, Conner was at home teaching Lizzy to bow her head—burning paper money for my mother-in-law, you know? He wasn’t watching Lizzy, and she rolled right off the couch and smacked her head. Got a huge bump."

Molly held up her phone. "Let me see. Honestly, my godbrother is even less reliable with kids than I am."

Annie typed in the group chat, "I’ll video call you all tonight when I get home."

Milka, who’d heard about Lizzy’s bruise from Mars, added in. Mars had tried to call Conner at the time, but the line was busy. Mars had joked, "Just watch, Asher’s probably on the phone right now, giving Conner hell for not watching our girl."

Anya sheepishly raised her hand. "Auntie, can I join you for the video call? I want to see Lizzy, too."

In the car, "Hey Lizzy, you’re home!"

Annie aimed her phone at her daughter’s chubby face. "Lizzy, look—say hi to your godmother, your auntie, and Anya!"

Lizzy, all gums and giggles, opened her mouth wide and reached for the phone, whining. "Waaah—ahhh—" She wanted to play.

Seeing the bump on Lizzy’s forehead had faded, Annie squeezed her daughter’s cheeks. "Always out running around with her dad—wind, sun, now her little face’s all rough. What other girl looks like mine?"

Conner spoke up from the back, eating as he did. "Who says her face is rough? Even if I forget sunscreen for myself, I always keep her covered. Her skin’s still soft as ever."

Annie fired back a few words, and Conner wisely kept quiet.

Lizzy pointed her little finger at her dad, looked at her mom, and started babbling away, her baby mouth full of nonsense.
