On the drive back to the Arrowood family home, Mars handed his phone over to Milka. “You have to back me up this time—seriously. Look at the group chat. See what everyone’s saying about me?”
Milka scrolled through the messages, grinning at the friendly teasing in the guys’ chat. Mars was definitely the target today. She laughed, “Hey, all I said was we might get back together. I never promised I’d marry you. They’re not wrong, you know.”
Mars shot her a look. “After all these years, what’s left to ‘date’ for? Haven’t you had enough?”
Still chuckling, Milka played a voice message from Conner. Lizzy’s little voice chirped “dada,” with Conner’s theatrics in the background: “Mars, did you hear that? My girl already calls me daddy. Milka still hasn’t said yes to you.”
Milka’s eyes lit up. “Lizzy can say ‘daddy’ now?”
Mars huffed, unconvinced. “That doesn’t count. She just got her lips in the right spot by accident. Doesn’t mean anything.”
Thanks to Lizzy—
When they reached the Arrowood house, the dinner table was already loaded with all of Milka’s favorite dishes.
As they were getting ready to leave, Leah tried to press an engagement gift into Milka’s hands, worried her future daughter-in-law might slip away again.
But since neither set of parents was around, Milka politely turned her down. That night, she headed back to her own family’s place.
When Jupiter saw his daughter walk through the door, he perked up instantly. “Not even officially engaged and you’re already eating at their house, leaving your old man here to eat by himself.”
Milka bent down beside him, catching the big smile he tried to hide. “Mars has had dinner with you a bunch of times. I just went over there this once. Dad, did you know Mom’s coming back soon?”
Jupiter turned away, pretending not to care. “Doesn’t matter to me if she comes back or not.”
Milka raised an eyebrow but didn’t call him out.
That night, she slept like a rock.
Meanwhile, in his dreams, Mars imagined he and Milka already had a kid together.
“Ms. Lu, our headquarters is doing a quick survey about the personal lives of overseas employees, just to plan for possible transfers. Please answer honestly.”
Milka stepped into the stairwell for some privacy. “Of course. Go ahead.”
“When you went to Eldoria, you were single. What’s your relationship status now?”
Milka replied, “I’m not single anymore.”
“So you’ve got a new boyfriend in Eldoria?”
Milka said, “No, I’ve had the same boyfriend the whole time. We’ve been together for twelve years—he’s definitely not new.”
Fielding continued, “Is your relationship interfering with your work at all?”
