Riley’s POV

“Fuck!” I cursed.
At the last second, my wolf Rene took over and shifted us. She was a sleek white she–wolf, with just a splash of brown at the tips of her ears.
She darted out of reach from the mutated dogs, weaving between them like smoke, leading them in circles around the lot. “Hey! You’re supposed to stand still and act like bait, not sprint around!” That damh idiot Kade yelled at me.
I ignored him and ran even faster. Luckily, his shouting pulled a few of the dogs toward him and his group. I heard their panicked yelling right after, followed by the sound of them shifting and trying to fight back.
Dumbass. Absolute dumbass.
Who screams during a hunt? That’s rule number one–keep quite so you don’t waste energy or give away your position. But all these so–called Royal Academy seniors did was run around and yell like a bunch of three–year–old.
I slipped into a shadowed corner, leaped onto a trash bin, and jumped onto the rooftop. The two dogs chasing me snarled at the wall below, drooling and snapping at the air. But once they realized they couldn’t reach me, they turned and ran back toward Kade’s group.
Now all 6 dogs were after them.
I watched from above, as they flailed around like clowns. It’s fucking hilarious, really–they called me a filthy dog every damn day, but when it came to real mutated dogs, they were literally seconds away from shitting their pants.
Kade finally managed to take one down, but that just pissed the rest of them off. They all swarmed him instantly.
“АННН –!”
Kade suddenly screamed. One dog clamped its jaws around his shoulder. I saw his skin around the bite turned pitch black. Yeah that’s definitely poisoned fangs.
“Do something, goddammit! Get them back
in the cages!” he roared at his friends.
But they were just as useless. Two of them ran. One just screamed for help!
I scoffed.
‘So what do you think? Should we save them?‘ I asked Rene in my head.
‘Saving these dumbasses is a waste of time,‘ she said.
‘Yeah, but if the Gamma’s son dies out here, I might get into a lot of trouble.‘
“Tch. Fine. It won’t take much effort anyway.‘
We reached that conclusion. Then Rene crept across the rooftop until we were right above the chaos.
Then we leapt–straight onto one of the dogs.
My fangs sank into its neck. It let out a whimper and collapsed.

The others lunged at me. I used the uneven terrain to my advantage, striking from odd angles and keeping them off balance. One by one, I brought them down. The last one I tricked back into its cage and slammed it shut.
They weren’t hard to kill. Vicious, sure, but dumb. The key was staying calm.

Rade and his friends were nowhere near calm. Amateurs
I shifted back, wiped the sweat from my forehead, and walked toward Kade. He was moaning like hell. His whole arm was turning black–badly poisoned.
“So, big strong warrior, huh?” I said with sarcasm.
He trembled. “You–you can’t tell anyone… about this… swear to fucking Moon Goddess…”
I rolled my eyes. Seriously? He was dying and still worried about his reputation? Typical Lycan male behavior.
“Relax. I aint got the time to spread your pathetic failure. Anyway just stay the hell away from me and I’ll pretend none of this ever happened.”
I turned to leave, but the only friend who hadn’t run grabbed my arm.
“Where the hell are you going? You’re a fucking healer–you have to save him! he yelled.
I sneered. “Are you kidding me? You tried to use me as bait. I nearly died. And now you want my help?”
“Kade’s the Gamma’s son. If anything happens to him and you don’t help, what’s the chance of you getting out of this clean?” he snarled.
I cursed under my breath.
Damn it.
These assholes really knew how to back me into a corner.
“Fine,” I muttered. Then I grabbed a cord from nearby and tied it tight around Kade’s upper arm to slow the poison. “There.
Emergency treatment. But if you want him to live, take him to a hospital now
“You can’t get the
poison out?”
“Nope.” I totally could. But I wasn’t about to lift a finger.
“U–useles
Kade groaned weakly.
“You wanna keen meting time yelling at me or get to the hospital and maybe not die today?” I snapped.
“Y–yeah…I need a hospital…but not a public one. My dad can’t know about this,” he groaned. “There’s a clinic near downtown… You guys ever heard of the Veilwalker?”
My head snapped up.
“Veilwalker? That legendary healer? He’s in the Full Moon Pack now?” his friend gasped.
“Yeah. Got the tip from someone I trust. Not many people know. Anyway, take me there. Only she can fix this.” Kade demanded.
“Of course, man!”
His buddy grabbed one shoulder. Kade motioned for me to grab the other. God, he was so goddamn heavy. Like dragging a pig on steroids.
We shoved him into the backseat. And I asked, “I heard Veilwalker only takes clients by appointment. You sure he’ll help you if you just show up?”
“I’m the fucking Gamma’s son. Saving me is an honor. Of course he’ll help,” he growled. The pain clearly got his temper short. “You don’t know shit. You don’t even know who the Veilwalker is. So just shut up and drive!”
I smirked, got behind the wheel, and drove off.

The clinic wasn’t far. By the time we got there, night had fallen and the underground club above it had opened. A few Lycans stood by the door, checking IDs.
“You two go. This doesn’t look like a place for girls,” I said.
Kade didn’t yell this time because he’s half–unconscious now.
I watched him and his friend walk up to the door before turning into the alley. There’s a back door. I slipped in there and headed straight to the clinic.
Mateo was talking to a nurse when I came in.
“Hey! Didn’t know you were coming by.” he looked surprised.
“Just passing through. How’s the night going?”
“Business as usual. Actually, just got two idiots in here. One got bitten by a mutated dog. They’re dertanding the Veilwalker.”
He pointed at a window. Through the one–way glass, I saw Kade thrashing on the bed, howling in pain.
“You can’t treat him?”
“Oh I could. But this dumbass claimed to be the Gamma’s son and insists he needs the best–which, apparently, is Veilwalker.” he shrugged.
I let out a cold sneer. “Well, go tell him the Veilwalker is here tonight. But I’ve got 3 rules: I don’t treat arrogant assholes, rich pricks who think they can buy me, or anyone I personally hate. And this guy checks every box. So either let one of you guys handle it, or tell him to start coffin shopping.”
Mateo grinned. “You heard the Veilwalker,” he told the nurse.
She winked at me and walked off to deliver the message.
“You know this guy?” Mateo asked.
I rolled my eyes
“Oh yeah. He’s in my class. Forced me into that fight with the dogs, tried to use me as bait, and then got himself poisoned. Idiot. ”
Mateo’s whole face dark instantly. “Then why are we even treating him. Just toss him out and let him die in the street.”
“No need. He’s still the Gamma’s kid.
don’t need the mess. Just make sure you charge him triple. And skip the anesthetics.”
He grinned. “Sure thing. Hey- you leaving already? No dinner?”
I walked to the door. “Can’t. Just dropped by. I’ll call if I need anything. Bye.”
