Chapter 63: Make The Traitor Pay

Riley’s POV

Kade’s face turned white.

“Run!” he screamed at his teammates. “RUN!”

But nobody got the chance.

One second Ezra was beside me, and the next he had crossed the clearing like a blur. Camila barely had time to gasp before he slammed into her. She was thrown backward so hard she hit the ground and rolled/across the dirt.

People started screaming. They fled like terrified prey.

Ezra threw his head back and roared. The sound ripped through the woods with enough Alpha pressure to make the ground shake. Every bird in the trees burst into the air at once.

Everyone froze at once.

Danica made a strangled noise and stumbled back two steps before her knees nearly gave out.

Ezra straightened up and glanced at the crowd, a savage look on his face.

“Move,” he said softly, “and I’ll tear your fucking spine out.”

No one moved.

“Riley?” He looked back at me.

I took a deep breath and walked up to Olivia. She was on the ground, staring at me like she was seeing a ghost. “Im -impossible… you’re supposed to be…”

“Dead?” I let out a cold laugh. “Well, sorry to disappoint you.”

Something hot and ugly was burning its way up my chest.

“Why?” I demanded, gritting my teeth. “The silver nail, the lying, the backstabbing… I’ve never dogs

thing to hurt you. Why the hell do you hate me so much?!”

Olivia bit her lips and said nothing. She just looked at me with malice

“Answer her question!” Ezra growled.

That was an order from a royal Lycan, and she couldn’t disobey it/ Her face twisted, and her

bitter tears.

filled with angry,

“Why? OK, let me tell you why… It was all because of my stupid brother!” she yelled, pointing at me with a trembling finger. “He wouldn’t shut up about you. It was always Riley this, Riley that. Riley’s brave, Riley’s smart, Riley’s so special. You should hear what he said after you defeated that warrior Lycan at school-it was almost like he’d fallen in love with you! I was so sick of hearing your name over and over. He’s MY brother. We’re supposed to be a team!”

Behind me, I heard Ezra shift his weight, but he stayed silent.

“That’s it?” I clenched my fists. “You hate me so much just because of the attention I get? You’re jealous?”

Her chest rose and fell violently, as if something inside her had finally snapped loose.

“Jealous?” she screamed. “No, I’m disgusted! That arrogant attitude of yours, acting like you know everything, pretending you care about everyone-hypocrite! You’re privileged, you know that? Not all of us have mothers who married the King and have a prince as our stepbrother. And yet you act like you’re the most pitiful person in the world! Like it’s all someone else’s fault. Like every man should feel sorry for you and protect you! It makes me sick!”

“Privileged?!” I growled. “Are you kidding me? Have you seen how those truly privileged kids targeted me at school? Like your little friends Kade and Camila here? Wake up, Olivia, I’m just like you!”

“Bullshit! You think you’ve had it hard? No, you don’t understand struggle at all. My brother and I had to fight for everything. Everything! But you just bat your eyelashes and get everyone’s attention-like Silas!”

My hands were trembling at my sides.

Before this, I thought she, Odin, and I were on the same team.

We were the few werewolves in the school. When others looked down on us, we could at least depend on each other.

But the truth was, she had never seen me as one of her own.

“You can hate me. But we are already on the same team. Do you have to sabotage this team like that?” I gritted.

“I never wanted you as my teammate,” Olivia spat. “If the Veilwalker hadn’t healed our wounds and demanded we team up with you—”

“What?” Ezra spoke up abruptly. “You’ve met the Veilwalker? That underground healer?”

My heart dropped.

Shit. How did I forget about that?

I tried to interrupt, but Olivia had already answered him. “Well, yeah. My brother and I got hurt during training, and they said the only one who could heal us in the whole city was the Veilwalker.”

“What did this Veilwalker look like?” Ezra pressed.

“She was more like a little girl, pretty young. She wore a veil the whole time, so I didn’t see her face. She didn’t even charge us for the healing-she just made me and Odin promise to team up with Riley for the Hunting Season. How weird is that?”

Ezra slowly turned his gaze to me.

His green eyes glinted coldly in the sunlight, and every hair on my body stood up instantly.

“Riley.” His voice was quiet and dangerous. “You never mentioned you knew the Veilwalker.”

My heart was pounding so hard I thought it might burst out of my chest.

Back then, I’d just used the Veilwalker identity to solve my problem of not having a team. I never thought it would backfire on me like this.

I licked my lips, my voice hoarse, “I…”

My brain scrambled for an excuse. But nothing came.

“I…I don’t know. This is the first I’m hearing about it. I don’t know any Veilwalker.”

Ezra kept staring at me.

A drop of cold sweat rolled down my back.

Just when I thought he was going to lunge and pin me down on the ground, he suddenly looked away.

“This is your team’s traitor. How do you want to handle her?” he asked in a cold voice.

I took in a deep breath and turned back to Olivia.

Her face was pale, clearly scared, but she was still putting on a brave front. “You won’t do anything to me. You don’t have the guts or the nerve-

I strode forward, my hand shooting out and wrapping around her throat.

She let out a gagging cry.

“Well, let me prove you wrong!” I snapped.

I shoved her backward until she hit the tree behind her hard enough to shake the branches.
