Chapter 313 Time to Settle the Debt
Gratitude?!
Oberon’s face turned ashen.
Seraphina smiled faintly, turned around, and headed to her room. Moments later, she returned with a tattered cloth bag–the one she had brought to the Whitewood Family. It contained nothing more than a single glass jar.
Both Oberon and Chloe froze. They understood instantly. She knew and had heard everything.
“Seraphina,” Chloe called out, attempting to keep her from leaving. A faint trace of fear lingered in her voice. She couldn’t explain why she felt so uneasy.
The housekeeper, Jasmine Cooke, and the other staff watched the scene unfold, sensing something was
amiss.
What kind of banquet did they attend last night? they wondered. Why had all three of them returned acting so differently?
“Miss Seraphina, what’s going on?” Jasmine asked.
Seraphina turned to her with a soft smile. “Take care, Ms. Cooke.”
The servants exchanged puzzled glances, unsure of what was happening.
Oberon remained silent.
Seraphina looked at Chloe. “Mrs. Whitewood, if there’s ever a day when you figure things out and want to say something to me, I’ll be waiting.”
Then, she turned her gaze to Oberon. “Mr. Whitewood, thank you for hosting me these past six months. As a token of my gratitude, I’ll send you a gift in a few days. I hope you like it.
“Though I’m not your daughter, you’ve taught me many lessons–ones I’ll carry with me forever. You’ve shown me a world I’d never seen before. For that, I’m truly grateful for your ‘dedicated efforts.
“Being your daughter may have been brief, but it’s an experience I’ll never forget.”
Her words seemed ordinary enough, but something about them felt off to Oberon and Chloe–though they couldn’t quite put their finger on it.
However, Jasmine and the other servants were stunned, their eyes wide with disbelief.
At the top of the stairs, Linara stood with her hand over her mouth, too shocked to speak.
Seraphina isn’t part of the Whitewood Family. My brother is Dad’s illegitimate son, and I’m Mom’s illegitimate daughter. All these revelations in just one day–how am I supposed to process this?
Just then, Aidan burst in from his morning jog, catching the tail end of the conversation. His jaw nearly hit the floor. What the hell?! That annoying Seraphina isn’t my biological sister?! I knew it! There’s no way someone like

her could be related to someone like me.
Smug, he marched into the room. Finally, he could kick her out and restore their family to the way it used
to be.
Eyeing the small bundle she carried, Aidan sneered. “Since you’re not part of the Whitewood Family, you can’t take anything that belongs to us. Let me see what’s in your bag.”
Seraphina didn’t argue. She opened the bag and, in front of everyone, revealed a nearly full glass jar. Then she gave the bag a good shake, proving it was empty.
Aidan picked up the jar, frowning. “What’s in here?”
Seraphina, surprisingly good–humored, replied, “Rat tails.”
Aidan yelped, dropping the jar in fright.
