Chapter 94

Cland

I stood up and walked over to the window, my hands clasped behind me as I stared out into the fading light. I heard her rise from the floor, the rustle of fabric behind me faint but distinct. “You should start getting accustomed to living like a Luna,” I said, my voice calm and even.

“But I don’t want to be your Luna,” she said firmly.

I turned around slowly, my gaze locking onto her trembling frame as my feet carried me back toward her. When I reached her, I tilted her chin upward gently, forcing her to look at me. Even though her face was angled toward mine, her eyes stayed lowered.

“I see you’re stubborn,” I said, my tone low but composed. “If you were truly as scared as you seem, Octavia, you wouldn’t dare exchange words with me.”

Her breath hitched as she finally lifted her gaze to meet mine. Her throat bobbed nervously, and for a moment, the air between us thickened. My thumb brushed across her lips, soft, hesitant, yet it sent an unexpected shiver through me. Foolish thoughts crossed my mind, ones I had no business

entertaining.

I’d never been kissed before. I didn’t even know how it felt. But standing there, so close to her, I found myself wanting to find out, and that realization almost made me laugh inwardly. If she ever knew how ignorant I was when it came to things like this, she’d probably mock me for it.

I wasn’t like most alphas. I’d never drowned myself in women or alcohol. My life had never been about pleasure, it had always been about survival. Maybe, somewhere deep down, I’d held onto some childish notion of wanting to stay pure for my mate, whenever I finally found her.

“Please… let go of my face,” her voice trembled, breaking through my thoughts.

But I didn’t. Instead, I studied her expression for a long moment before saying quietly, “Let me tell

you a story about a young boy.”

Her eyes flickered with confusion, but she said nothing.

“One day,” I began, my voice steady, “he saw his sister sitting with her friends. And because he always wanted to be close to her, he hid and watched her laugh. He thought she looked beautiful when she smiled.” I paused, swallowing hard, though my face remained emotionless. “But somehow, she caught him watching. When she did, her eyes flashed with something cold. The boy thought maybe she’d look at him like a big sister should. He thought she’d call him over and ruffle

his hair.”

Octavia’s expression softened slightly, curiosity mixing with unease.

“She did call him over,” I continued, “and for a moment, he felt happy. He walked toward her, smiling, thinking she’d finally let him in. But when he got close enough, she laughed-mocking him.

Then she said it.”

Octavia’s lips parted slightly. “Said what?” she asked quietly.

“That she hated him.” My voice dropped lower, bitter. “And before he could even move, she wanted to prove it. To show her friends how ruthless she could be, she grew her claws and drove them straight into his chest.”

Her eyes widened, and she instinctively tried to pull away from me, but I tightened my grip, holding

her still.

“The little boy just stood there,” I went on, my tone harder now, colder. “He watched her hand buried in his chest. Watched his blood spill from his mouth and how she squeezed his heart, almost killing him. But the thing that terrified him most wasn’t the pain-it was her face. The look of satisfaction when she did it, the smile of a maniac and a beast.”

“Please, stop,” she whispered, tears streaming down her cheeks as she struggled against me, pushing me, not wanting to hear anymore of it.

But I wasn’t finished. “That was the last thing that ten-year-old boy saw before he hit the ground, with her laughter and that of her friends ringing in his ears.”

And then-her hand flew. The sharp crack of her palm meeting my cheek filled the room.

For a moment, silence settled between us. Her breath came in ragged gasps, her eyes wide and wet. And I just stood there, my cheek stinging, staring down at her, not in anger, but with something deeper, something unreadable.

“Why are you telling me that?” she spat, her voice sharp and trembling with a mix of anger and

confusion.

I stared at her for a few seconds, my jaw tightening before I finally spoke. “So you’ll know you’re not the only one who’s felt the wrath of Bella-my sister,” I said evenly, my tone carrying a quiet weight. “And so you’ll stop looking at me the same way you’d look at her.”

The words hung between us like smoke, thick and heavy. I watched her slowly sink back down, her defiance dimming as her eyes lowered.

“I’ll send a maid to attend to you and bring your dinner,” I added, straightening my shoulders. “Please, rest for the night.”

Turning toward the door, I reached for the knob, twisting it halfway before pausing. I glanced back

at her, catching her wide eyes still fixed on me, unreadable and full of questions.

“Oh-and Octavia,” I said quietly, my tone deepening. “There will be no escaping me. Or our bond.

You should start accepting your truth.”
