Chapter 99

Even without him saying it outright, I knew immediately he was talking about himself.
And I remember that day clearly, the day mistress Bella almost killed me, she stormed into the
room. The moment she entered, we all instinctively bowed our heads. Her fury was palpable,
radiating off her like heat.
She was practically boiling, and we knew something had gone terribly wrong. Mistress Bella had always bragged about her love for Alpha Osborne, claiming they would marry one day. So, when she discovered he had claimed another, she had lost all control and came rushing to Silver Crest
Pack.
That day, she was terrifying. Her gaze swept the room and, for reasons I still don’t understand, it landed on me. “You fat, ugly pig-come here,” she snapped. Head still bowed, I stepped forward,
obedient but terrified.
“Raise your head,” she ordered. I did, but I kept my eyes cast downward, knowing she would scold me for looking directly at her.
I had witnessed her rage before, and I desperately didn’t want to become her next victim-but I guess I was wrong. She scoffed, that cruel smile spreading across her face. “You look almost like her,” she said, tilting my chin upward. She was towering over me, so tall and imposing.
“If I can’t touch her, I’ll take out my anger on someone who resembles her.”
My eyes widened in shock. Before I could even react, her claws shot out, slashing across my chest. The pain hit instantly, ripping through me like fire. I had never known agony like that.
And as if that weren’t enough, she drove her claws into my stomach. It felt like being stabbed repeatedly and just as Alpha Maurice had said today, an evil smile was plastered on her face even as I fell down, that day, with no ounce of remorse.
Then she ordered them to drag me out. They yanked me across the floor like an animal, and the
world went black.
The pain that followed was unbearable. I woke up in a hospital bed, every nerve screaming, wishing for death. I couldn’t bear it and soon drifted back into unconsciousness.
Weeks later, when I finally opened my eyes again, they felt heavy. Confusion clouded my mind; I
didn’t even know where I was.
Then Alpha Osborne arrived. I was stunned, I had never seen him close before. But it wasn’t just his

presence that struck me; it was his voice. Calm and warm, the voice of a true leader.
Claird
“You’re safe now,” he had said gently. I nodded, tears threatening to spill. “I’m sorry for what Bella did to you,” he continued. “I hope no misfortune ever befalls you again.”
A few days later, I was discharged and returned to Waterford. I had heard rumors of the war and ran straight home to my family.
My parents and sister were overjoyed to see me alive. Then they told me what Bella had planned for
my sister to come see me because she wanted me to do something to Alpha Osborne’s maté, the very man that was the reason I was alive, my blood boiled.
If I had seen Bella in that moment, I would have unleashed every ounce of rage in me. But I knew I couldn’t. I was powerless against her.

So when I later learned that karma had finally caught up with her, that she was crippled, unable to walk, I felt relief. Perhaps I shouldn’t have, but I did. Justice had finally reached her.
When she was eventually sold off, I returned to work. Life had to go on, we had mouths to feed. But I swore I would never involve myself with the Maxwells again, beyond doing my job and collecting my pay.
And now, here I was, mated to Bella’s brother, the man who took control after turning his father into
a vegetable.
When I looked into his eyes as he spoke of that young boy, the boy I now knew was him, I felt the weight of his pain. It mirrored my own.
Bella had truly been a monster: a woman of stunning beauty but a heart as dark as night. And wherever she was now, I hoped her life would be filled with misery.

Those words kept gnawing at me, that bastard saying Bella had me in her palm, that I’d fallen for her. I drank until the room spun.
I can’t fall for her; Cherry would never forgive me. I felt hollow, but I shoved the feeling down. This wasn’t part of the plan.
He also said Bella had sent him to kill young girls, which stung deeper. Her crimes can’t go unanswered. I pushed everything else aside and fixed my mind on punishing her as I’d intended.
When I finished the last of my liquor, I made a decision: no more games. Time for action.
The next morning, after we disposed of that fool’s body, we headed back to our pack. Not long after, I got a call, Bella was awake.

Chapter 99
I went straight to the hospital. The moment I stepped into her room, she was sitting up, staring blankly into space. Then, suddenly, she turned her head sharply toward me.
Cimo
“Who are you?” she asked, her voice steady, not the broken tone I’d grown used to when she’d cry
under my taunts.
“What kind of stupid question is that?” I shot back, but she just stared at me like I’d lost my mind.
“I don’t know this place, and I want to go home! Also, why can’t I feel my legs? Why isn’t anyone answering me?” she snapped, her voice rising with the same entitled tone she used to have in her father’s pack, as if she still thought she could command everyone.
I moved closer to her and looked her dead in the eye. “I know you must’ve felt it, that mating bond between us. So I’ll save us both the time and get straight to the point.”
Her face twisted in confusion and disgust, and I continued coldly, “Your father sold you to me.”
