Chapter 121
Maurice

I still couldn’t believe I was actually dressing up to meet Octavia’s parents, because she wanted
me to. I’d never done something like this before, never cared to impress anyone but myself. Yet
here I was, standing before the mirror like a nervous fool. I guess there’s a first time for everything.
I kept reminding myself that I was the Alpha. They were my subordinates. No one, not even her family, could make me feel small. But no matter how much I repeated that, I couldn’t shake the strange unease of meeting my mate’s parents. It was ridiculous, but it lingered in my chest like an
ache I couldn’t name.
I straightened my tux, adjusted the tie until it sat just right, and exhaled slowly. The man staring back at me in the mirror looked every bit the leader he was supposed to be, calm, composed, in control. “Perfect,” I muttered, just as a knock came at the door.
“Alpha, we’re ready,” came the voice from outside.
I gave myself one last glance before I headed out of my room, my guards gave me an impressed look before we made our way outside.
And there she was.
The moment I stepped outside, my breath caught. Octavia turned to face me, and for a second, everything stilled. Her dress clung to her body like it had been made just for her, highlighting every curve, every line that tempted my self-control. My throat went dry. I could feel my body react immediately, my c**k hardened, and I had to silently curse myself. Not now, I warned, swallowing
hard.
She smiled at me, that soft, teasing curve of her lips that always managed to disarm me. “Took you long enough,” she said lightly. “You know, the man is supposed to be the one waiting for the
woman.”
I couldn’t help but smile. “Who could blame me? I just wanted to look my best for my future in-laws, since their daughter thought I was a monster.”
She laughed, covering her lips with her hand, her cheeks turning the faintest shade of pink. “Oh, you flatter yourself too much, Alpha Maurice.”
Her laughter did something to me, something dangerous. If I could eat up that sound, that blush, I
would.
We got into the car, and her scent hit me the moment the door shut. Sweet. Addictive. The kind

that made my head spin and my restraint waver. It filled the space, wrapping around me, whispering all the things I couldn’t have yet.
“When we meet your parents, Octavia,” I began, turning to her, “I don’t want to waste time. We’ll have the ceremony immediately.”

It wasn’t a suggestion-it was the truth. There were too many things I wanted to do to her, too many
nights I had imagined tasting her, feeling her beneath me. And it was driving me insane knowing l
couldn’t, because I promised. I’d told her we would marry before crossing that line, and now that
promise felt like a curse I’d laid upon myself.
“Of course, Maurice,” she said softly, looking up at me. And goddess, the way she said my name,
like it was something sacred, made my chest tighten.
I stole a glance at her, her delicate face glowing in the soft evening light. She looked like
something I could never taint, innocent, warm, untouched. Like a cute little teddy bear wrapped up
just for me. Teddy bear. The name suited her more than she’d ever known.
I didn’t even realize I was smiling until she caught me.
“What are you thinking about, Maurice?” she asked, her voice curious, her eyes glistening as they
met mine.
“Just how beautiful you are,” I said simply.
Her gaze faltered, and she looked away quickly, her cheeks flushing red again. I couldn’t stop the
smirk tugging at my lips. I loved that I could do that to her-with nothing but words. It made me
feel… powerful in a different way. Not as an Alpha commanding obedience, but as a man making
his woman blush just by looking at her.
When we got there, it was a small house located in the part of Waterford that wasn’t a wealthy
place but was decent enough.
“How do you feel coming to this part of the world?” she whispered to me, and I answered truthfully,
“That I want this place to look more stayable than it is,” I said, looking around.
A few people had already gathered, their eyes following us as we walked up the front porch. I could tell they were curious, probably wondering who the powerful man Octavia had brought home. They’d have their answers soon enough when they noticed the flag on the cars.
The door opened and a woman appeared, smiling at Octavia before her eyes met mine. She froze for a second, then immediately bowed. “Welcome into our home, Alpha Maurice,” she greeted with a respectful tone.
I nodded, replying calmly, “Thank you so much for receiving me,” as she motioned for us to step

inside and we did “I missed you mother” Octavia said smiling.
Just then, a man appeared before us, as if eager to meet with us. And the instant his eyes met mine, he straightened and bowed low. “It is an honor to meet you, Alpha Maurice,” he said.
“The honor is all mine,” I replied, “and thank you for having such a daughter.”
