Side Story 25-1

That bastard returned when I least expected it. Still, I had already secured a few things for myself-
small moves he wouldn’t notice. But that didn’t calm the rage simmering inside me. The moment he arrived, he took everything I’d worked for-everything I’d sacrificed years to build. I bled for this pack, ran it without sleep, without thanks, only for him to show up and remind me brutally that in their eyes, I was nothing more than a stand-in. A placeholder. And I hated every second of it.
That foolish beta didn’t help matters either. The moment Abel walked back into the pack, the idiot practically threw the title at him. If only I could snap his neck and be done with him.
In two days, I would have to announce publicly that I was handing the alpha title back to its ” rightful heir.”
Rightful heir, my ass.
I was still lost in my thoughts when my son barged in without knocking.
“Have you lost your mind, Alan?” My voice boomed harder than intended.
“I’m sorry, Father… but I have a problem.”
I clicked my tongue. Not again.
“Speak.”
He swallowed hard-never a good sign.
“I… found out a girl is pregnant with my child.”
My eyes widened. I shot up from my seat immediately. Slowly, I walked toward him. He stepped
back on instinct, then froze, squeezing his eyes shut, bracing for the discipline he expected.
Instead, I gripped his arm and leaned closer.
“What did you just say?”
“It was a mistake, Father. I swear-I didn’t know until now.”
A low rumble vibrated in my chest. The boy didn’t understand what he’d done-but I did.
This was good news.
Very good.
With this, my position could be secured again. If Abel failed to produce an heir quickly, the elders

could be convinced he wasn’t fit to rule. The pack needed stability. A future alpha. And my grandson would be that key.
“Father… aren’t you angry? Abel wants me to reject my mate and marry her instead.” His voice trembled with resentment.
I stopped laughing and cleared my throat, regaining composure.
“Yes, son.” I turned away and returned to my chair.
“But Father-”
One sharp glance from me shut him up.
“You’ll do exactly as Abel ordered. Reject your mate and marry the girl carrying your child. No
argument.”
Clam
He swallowed hard, fists clenched. Poor slow boy-he couldn’t see the opportunity standing right
in front of him.
“Oh-also… it’s tonight. And I forgot to tell you. Abel found his mate.”
My head snapped toward him.
“What?”
That couldn’t be. If that fool had found his mate, the tide could shift. If she gave him an heir first,
the pack would follow him blindly.
“But he wants to reject her,” Alan added quickly.
“Why?” My voice was sharp.
“She’s sixteen. He says he won’t get a minor pregnant.”
I laughed again, louder this time.
Smart boy. So he knew the importance of producing an heir-yet his principles stopped him. Good.
Nature favored me again.
With Alan’s unborn child, I could sway the parliament like before. The same way I convinced them
he was too spoiled and unprepared to lead, which allowed me to step in. Sending him away “for
experience” had been easy.
If only the men I hired to finish the job actually succeeded, he wouldn’t be here now. But all of them
vanished without a trace, not even a body left behind.
That part bothered me.
