“Mom, please snap out of it and explain to me why you’re so scared,” I said, my voice breaking.

She lifted her eyes to mine, and they were filled with a sadness I had never seen before,

“I wasn’t the only one who dated a werewolf when I was younger, Idara,” she said quietly. “I had a

friend who did too.”

I pulled out a chair for her and gently guided her to sit. She did, slowly, and I sat beside her, holding

her hand, urging her to continue.

“I had a friend named Sofie,” she began. “She was mated to a werewolf called Derek. To her, he

was sweet, gentle, loving. But he kept what he was a secret.”

I nodded, listening closely.

“As young girls, we were curious. We wanted to explore life, and we did. We even promised ourselves we would lose our virginity at the same time,” she said with a small, sad chuckle.

“But life doesn’t always go the way we plan. Sofie got pregnant not long after. After he deflowered her, Derek kept sleeping with her over and over again. More times than I could count.”

She stared into space, her voice growing heavier.

“A werewolf has an extremely strong sexual urge, Idara. Especially when they are in heat.”

She turned to me with a sad smile.

“Sofie became pregnant very quickly. Her parents were furious. When they took her to Derek and his family, they begged her not to abort the child, knowing very well she might not survive it.”

Her voice hardened with anger.

“But Sofie… foolish girl in love… begged her father not to abort the pregnancy. She said she loved

him.”

Tears spilled down my mother’s face.

“Idara, I watched as that child ate her from the inside.”

My eyes widened, my chest tightening painfully.

“It was no ordinary pregnancy. They got married, and Sofie didn’t tell anyone- not even me- when

she found out what Derek truly was. He had bitten her, and sealed their bond. She couldn’t leave.

There was no way out.”

She wiped her face, her body trembling.

“When I finally found out, it was already too late. She was so pale, lying on that bed, almost lifeless.

I begged her to tell me what was wrong, and when she finally did… that’s when I realized my boyfriend at the time was one too.”

She let out a shaky breath.

“But Lucas never did it without protection. He never wanted me to go through that pain. Derek was

selfish.”

She broke down completely then, her body shaking as I pulled her into my arms. I held her tightly

my heart aching for her pain.

“And when that monster was finally born,” she sobbed harder, “Sofie didn’t make it. I don’t want that for you, Idara. I can’t lose you.” I can’t begin to imagine how my mom was feeling right now, it must have been so traumatic for her, knowing she always loves deeply.

When she finally pulled back, she cupped my face with trembling hands.

“If you must stay with him,” she said, her voice firm through tears, “do not get pregnant for him.

Never.”

I nodded slowly, my throat tight.

“Is there really no other way to cut ties with him?” I asked. “No way at all?” or should I just run away

but where to?

She shook her head, and my eyes widened.

“There is none, Idara,” she said. “Even if you run away, he will find you. From what I know about them, once a werewolf claims his mate, he becomes obsessed. He doesn’t let go. He won’t stop searching for you if you leave, you’re stuck with him, Idara, for life.”

I swallowed hard.

Does that mean Mr. Chester is obsessed with me?

A shiver ran through my body.
