Book 2:Chapter 20-1

It didn’t look like Mr. Chester had come to work today, and honestly, my mind had been stuck on
everything my mom told me.
I should have been more terrified about getting pregnant-about ending up like my mother’s friend
-but what disturbed me more was something else entirely.
He cheated.
I could endure many things, but not cheat. The thought gnawed at me. He cheated on his ex-wife, now he had a fiancée, yet he still claimed I was his wife-after biting me without my consent. And on top of that, he had been manipulating me.
I needed to see him.
I wished the hours would rush past until I did, yet the truth sat heavy in my chest-I was bound to him for life now. Leaving wasn’t simple. It wasn’t even realistic.
With his kind of connections, if I tried to disappear, he would track me down effortlessly. I chewed
hard on the tip of my pen.
“You seem deep in thought,” Eliot said.
I immediately pulled the pen from my mouth. “Yeah-sorry. What were you saying?” I asked, clearing my throat.
“Mrs. Lucy said you should work on this and deliver it to the CFO’s office,” he said, handing me a
file.
I took it. “Thanks,” I replied quietly. He nodded, a polite smile on his face.
Elliot has really been a good co-worker but ever since that incident with Faye, she had learned to keep her distance from me. And honestly, I didn’t want enemies in this company-I already had enough problems without adding workplace drama.
I finished working on the file, stood up, and headed toward the elevator leading to the CFO’s floor. The moment my foot touched the hallway pavement, my eyes drifted to the secretaries’ desk-two of them seated there. That had been where I was supposed to work before I was transferred to
the CEO’s office.
I approached one of them. “I’m here to drop this file for Mr. Gabe.”

She looked at me once, then immediately stood. “This way,” she said, escorting me to the door She opened it, and I dipped my head slightly before stepping inside.
The office was just as large as Mr. Chester’s-only the design and atmosphere were different.
Claird
I walked toward the desk. The moment he noticed me, he stood up, and the way he looked at me caught me completely off guard.
“Sir, this is-“I began, but then he did the last thing I expected.
He bowed.
Low.
“It’s a pleasure to finally meet you, ma’am,” he said.
I swallowed hard and instinctively stepped back. That was supposed to be my line-not his.
“What are you doing?” I blurted.
He straightened calmly. “You are the Alpha’s mate,” he said. “I can smell him all over you.”
I froze.
Slowly, I lifted my hands to my nose. I smelled like… me. Nothing unusual. Nothing like Mr. Chester.
Or maybe this was just another one of those werewolf things.
“Oh… I don’t actually know,” I said with a small, confused laugh.
