“Do you even hear yourself, Helio?” she snapped, her hands curling into fists as fury churned inside

her. “Julio loved me. He loved our family. Stop saying rubbish.”

I exhaled slowly and shook my head. “Did anyone ever tell you how he really died?” I asked.

She blinked, swallowed hard, nerves rising on her skin.

I stepped closer. Her eyes widened as I closed the distance, stopping only long enough to extend

the file toward her.

She glanced at it, then back at me, refusing to take it.

“Your husband died while sleeping with one of his mistresses, Violet,” I said calmly. Her face drained of color instantly, but I wasn’t finished. “And he fathered three children with three different

women.”

The moment the words settled, her knees buckled. She collapsed onto the floor.

Julian wasn’t his only child. He had fathered three more. Of the three illegitimate children my brother left behind, I knew of two daughters. But the third remained a mystery, whoever has all the evidence concerning that child hidden has done a very good and clean job.

“No… you’re lying,” she whispered, shaking her head in denial.

“I’m not,” I replied, turning away to take a seat. From the chair, I studied her pitiful state. “And you’re probably wondering how I know.”

“Recently, I noticed funds being transferred without my approval,” I continued. “We traced them.” I cleared my throat. “Your husband had set up monthly fixed payments-for his children.”

I dropped the files onto the table.

“You never truly knew the man you married,” I said coldly. “He died exactly as he lived-on top of

another woman.”

Leaning forward, elbows braced on my knees, I stared at her. “But something tells me,” my voice

lowered, “that you knew. You suspected his affairs but chose to lie to yourself.”

At that, she lifted her tear-soaked face, eyes trembling. “Julio would never cheat on me,” she

repeated, clinging to the lie.

I held her gaze. “Tell me, Violet. What do you know? What did you figure out?”

I paused.

“I need to hear everything.”

She didn’t answer. She only stared at me, hollow and distant. Then, suddenly, she got on her feet

and wiped her face.

“I see what you’re doing,” she said, her voice firm despite the cracks beneath it. “You want me to fall apart. You’re feeding me lies to break me-but I won’t fall for it.”

So that was it. She had deceived herself for so long that her delusion had become her truth.

“Whether you keep lying to yourself or not,” I said evenly, “it doesn’t change reality. There is a child out there. One whose gender I don’t know. One deliberately hidden. And one who could one day

become a threat to Julian.”

At the sound of her son’s name, her eyes widened.

I stood and faced her fully. “I know of two, who are in fact girls. The third remains a mystery. But for something to be concealed this carefully, Violet, it’s almost certainly a son.” My gaze hardened. “You think the council favors you? They don’t. So if you want to protect your position-your legacy -you’ll stop pretending and tell me everything you know.”

I stepped closer. “So tell me, Violet. What do you know?”

Her

eyes

flickered. She clenched her jaw and looked away, her body trembling.

“I… I don’t know much,” she admitted, her voice unsteady. She still couldn’t meet my gaze. “I knew he was cheating on me-but I didn’t know the women. I kept telling myself I was imagining it.”

Her voice broke, rough with emotion. “But I’m a woman, Helio. I knew my husband was unfaithful. I

just… chose not to dig deeper. So no-I don’t know anything else.”

She clutched her head as the words spilled out.

For a moment, I felt the urge to comfort her. But closeness with another woman was a line I

wouldn’t cross. I didn’t want another scent clinging to me-and Riley had made his stance clear,”

Just stay where you are, softy.” He had said.

“You may not know anything,” I said finally, “but you can still act now. I’m not your enemy, Violet. The people you believe are your allies are the ones working against you.”

I walked to the table, picked up the file, and approached her again, offering it for the second time.

“I won’t force you,” I continued quietly. “But read this. And do the right thing-not for yourself, or the illusion you built around your mate, but for your son. My nephew.”

I waited.

After a few long seconds, her hand shook as she took the file from me. She said nothing. Turning

away,

she let her legs carry her unsteadily out of my room.

Once the door closed, I released a slow breath.

As Alpha, I needed the Luna’s support. I didn’t trust Violet-not for a second-but I knew one thing

with certainty.

She would do anything for her son.

And as the saying goes, the enemy of my enemy

is my

friend.

Now back to the matter of the council, one thing refused to sit right with me-no autopsy was ever performed on my brother’s body. No official cause of death from the council, and the way they covered it up, from the pack with the excuse of not wanting them to know how their Alpha died

was suspicious on its own.

So how do I dig up dirt on them? How do I get more evidence that they killed Julio?

Or worse-what if I’d been searching in the wrong direction all along?

I sank into my seat, forcing myself to think.

Come on, Helio. You’re smarter than this.

Then it hit me.

What if the child no one knew about was the key to everything?

My eyes widened as I reached for my phone and dialed a number.

Danae answered immediately. “Hello, little brother.”

“Hi. I need something from you,” I said.

The line went quiet for a beat before she spoke again. “I’m listening.”

“You once told me Eleanor was my brother’s mistress,” I said.
