Book 2:Chapter 50
Anna
The moment the guard unlocked the bars, the harsh metallic sound echoed through the cell,
grating against my nerves. The door creaked open, and then he stepped in.
Mr. Gabe.
His presence alone shifted the air, thickening it, suffocating. His eyes locked onto mine instantly-
sharp, unwavering, and far too knowing. It was as if he had been waiting for this moment, savoring
it long before it even arrived.
“The Alpha kept you in my care, Anna,” he said softly.
Too softly.
His voice was like a gentle breeze, but it carried something darker beneath it-something dangerous. A quiet threat wrapped in silk.
“And I do hope that for your sake, you cooperate with me.”
I straightened where I stood, forcing my chin up despite the way my chest tightened. I refused to
shrink before him. Refused to show fear.
I wasn’t going to be intimidated.
Not by him.
Not by anyone.
…Except maybe the Alpha when he used his power.
“I am not going to beat around the bush,” he continued, his tone shifting just slightly, his gaze sharpening as it bore into me. “I’m just going to ask you nicely.”
There was nothing nice about the way he looked at me.
“The poisons you purchased from the physician’s shop… who did you buy them for all those years?”
My heart stumbled.
For a split second, my vision blurred as panic clawed up my throat. My eyes blinked rapidly, trying
to clear the sudden haze.
Did they know?
Did they somehow find out that I had bought poison… to kill the former Alpha?

No.
No, that couldn’t be possible.
The last time I bought any had been three years ago… after he was already dead.
So how-Unless… They were guessing.
Yes.
That had to be it.
A trap.
They didn’t have proof. They were fishing, waiting for me to slip.
My mind raced, scrambling for something, anything-to say that wouldn’t damn me.
I parted my lips to speak-
“Ah, ah, ah…”
His voice cut through mine like a blade.
I froze.

“Before you open your mouth,” he said slowly, that same chilling smile creeping onto his face, “you should think of the consequences of what you’re about to say.”
A shiver crawled down my spine.
It felt like he could see right through me.
Like every lie, every thought, every secret was laid bare before him.
My throat tightened, bubbling with fear I refused to show.
Still…
“I-yes,” I forced out, my voice betraying me with the slightest tremble. “I have purchased a
particular poison… several times. But it was for my own purpose.”
The moment the words left my mouth, I hated how weak they sounded.
How unconvincing.
His smile widened.
“I told you to think before you speak,” he murmured, almost disappointed.
Slowly, he raised his hands, cracking his knuckles one after the other. The sharp sounds filled the

silence, each one making my pulse spike harder.
It was the kind of sound that promised pain.
The kind of sound that told you mercy wasn’t part of what came next.

“I’m going to give you another chance,” he said, shrugging off his suit jacket with deliberate calm.
And this time…”
He rolled up his sleeves, exposing his forearms, his movements controlled, precise.
“Do not lie to me.”
My wolf stirred beneath my skin, restless, sensing the danger before I fully allowed myself to
accept it.
Something was wrong.
Very wrong.
“I already told you!” I snapped, louder this time, forcing strength into my voice. “I bought it for myself. There was someone I wanted to kill-and it worked. I bought it for myself!”
I needed him to believe it, I needed him to stop digging.
But he didn’t even flinch, not even a little.
His eyes stayed locked on mine, unblinking, unreadable.
This…This wasn’t the Mr. Gabe I knew.
Or maybe… That version of him had never been real.
He tilted his head slowly to one side, then the other, like a predator studying its prey.
“My mate told me to have all the fun in the world while I played with you,” he said, his lips curling to reveal his teeth. “Because you’re a hard one.”
A chill shot through me.
“And now… I know I’m going to enjoy you.”
My breath hitched.
Mate?
What mate?
As far as I knew, he didn’t have one.

violently against my ribs.
My claws itched beneath my skin, threatening to break through at any second.
I braced myself.
He couldn’t be that strong.
He was half-human.
Everyone knew that.
It was why he stayed at the company instead of the battlefield. Why he was never spoken of as a
warrior.
Weak.
That was what they called him.
And if that was true…I could take him.
The only problem would be the guard outside.
If there were two-Then escape would be impossible.
“You see…” he continued, pacing slowly, his voice almost thoughtful. “Before I became a changed man, I used to enjoy killing.”
My stomach twisted.
“And because of that… the former Alpha used me however he pleased.”
He glanced at me briefly, something dark flashing in his eyes.
“I was his silent weapon. His executioner. His… tool for extracting information from people like you.”
A cold dread settled deep in my chest.
“The former Alpha might have been a d**k,” he added with a quiet scoff, “but he gave me purpose.
In a world where everyone already saw me as a monster.”
His gaze lifted, unfocused for a moment.
“Especially my father.”
There was something raw in his tone now. Something buried deep.
“He knew what it meant… to have a human bear his child.”
