I stood by the window with a glass of whisky in hand, taking slow sips as I stared into the dark night. It was going to be a long night-long and painful for some. While some would lose their minds, others would be put through torture, and the bold ones who dared to scheme against me and my mate… will do what they know best, scheming.

A faint smirk tugged at my lips.

They really thought I was like my father and my brother. Weak. Predictable. Easy to control. But they were wrong. I wasn’t them. I was Helio, and the only thing that had ever held me back was the fact that I didn’t have my Alpha power.

Now I did.

My grip tightened slightly around the glass as the thought settled in. Let them try whatever they had planned. I would crush them, one after the other, until there was nothing left.

My expression softened as my thoughts shifted.

When did all of this start to feel right? When did I finally feel like I had a purpose?

Idara.

The answer came without hesitation. The moment she came into my life, everything changed. Before her, I was merely existing, drifting through life without direction. But after her… I had something to live for. Something to protect.

I turned from the window, my gaze settling on her sleeping form. She looked so peaceful, untouched by the darkness surrounding us. A small smile appeared on my face as I watched her.

“I will protect you,” I murmured quietly. “Until my dying breath.”

She was my gift. My reason. The one person that truly mattered. Everything began to fall into place the moment I met her, and even my power had awakened because of her. It was only right-l needed the strength to protect what was mine.

My wolf stirred within me, agreeing.

I let out a quiet breath, my gaze lingering on her for a moment longer before my thoughts shifted

again.

Gabe.

I wondered how things were going with him.

“Well… it seems they were right,” I said, wiping the blood off my cheek as I looked down at her. “I’m

really going to enjoy this.”

Anna lay on the floor, barely breathing, her chest rising unevenly as blood stained her lips. I

crouched down in front of her, watching as her eyes slowly moved to meet mine. The fear in them

was unmistakable, and it made something dark stir within me.

“Oh, how I’ve missed this life,” I added, almost fondly.

Fresh tears slipped down her cheeks as her lips trembled. “Please… let me go,” she whispered

weakly.

I shook my head slowly before reaching down to grab her hair, forcing her to lift her head and look at me properly. “As long as you refuse to tell the truth, we’ll keep doing this,” I said calmly. “And thankfully, werewolves heal fast.”

I leaned in slightly, tightening my grip.

“By tomorrow, you’ll be just fine for me to start again.”

Á broken sob escaped her, and I studied her for a moment, unimpressed. She didn’t look so

fearless now-not like when she had attacked me earlier.

“Oh, and I do hope you don’t break too early, Anna,” I continued as I released her, letting her head

fall back to the floor. “I like it when my victims last. It makes things more… enjoyable.”

The smile slowly faded from my face as I stood and reached for my coat, pulling out a

handkerchief to wipe my hands clean.

“My mate once begged me to leave this life,” I said after a brief pause. “She told me I should quit.”

A quiet scoff left me as I slipped the handkerchief away.

“You should have seen how excited I was when she asked me to go back to it.”

Picking up my coat, I made my way to the door before pausing and glancing back at her battered form.

“We’ll see each other again tomorrow,” I said coldly. “Then we’ll find out if you’re willing to die for your boss… or if the people you love matter more.”

With that, I stepped out, and the door shut behind me, leaving her alone.

Book 2 Chapter 51

“Will you be heading straight home, sir?” the guard asked as we walked down the hall.

I shook my head. After what I had just done, I needed something else.

“I’d rather use one of the guest quarters,” I said. “I need to wash. Tell my mate to meet me there.

The guard nodded immediately.

Outside, I inhaled deeply, letting the fresh air fill my lungs as another guard joined us. I pulled out a

cigar and placed it between my lips.

“Do you have a lighter?” I asked.

It was handed to me instantly. I lit it and took a slow drag as we walked, the smoke curling into the night air. I needed to get the blood off my body before seeing her. I always preferred to meet/her

clean.

We got into the car, and the drive to the main estate was quiet. The Alpha estate was massive, and the dungeon was not a place anyone ended up in lightly. If you were taken there, it meant you had

committed a grave sin.

I exhaled smoke slowly, thinking about what I had heard earlier. There was another woman being held there, along with her guards. My mate had mentioned it-apparently, she had tried to harm Alpha Helio’s mate.

A foolish move.

Soon, we arrived, and I was escorted inside and straight to the guest quarters-the usual one I used whenever I visited. The moment I was alone, I began stripping off my clothes as I headed to

the bathroom.

The hot water washed everything away-the blood, the sweat, the remnants of violence. For a brief

moment, there was peace.

Then the door opened.

Her scent filled the air instantly, and I smiled, turning off the shower as I stepped out. She walked straight into the bathroom, her eyes scanning my body.
